Nclex July 9th, Work July 11th

Published

I am starting orientation on July 11th and have just scheduled my Nclex for July 9th, the Saturday before I start. I'm wondering if this is a bad idea, considering I fail... I won't be able to do orientation... What do you all think of this? Is it best to complete orientation first? I'm thinking the sooner I take the test the better but I am also only halfway through reading my Saunders book. I've read the Pre RN ERI book and done a bunch of Nclex 3500 and 3000 questions. Is this enough?? I feel like I'll never know WHAT is enough.

I think that you are doing things a little too tight. In most states, you won't get your results until Monday, 48 hours later.

Do you have a permit to work as a GN? If not, then how are you going to begin orientation as an RN? Most facilities do require that already have some type of license to practice as a nurse.

I would concentrate on doing the Saunder's questions and forget about the others. There is no reason for you to have to read the book if you are just graduating from school.

I am taking the nclex on july 8th and starting orientaion on july 11th so we are in the same boat...I would rather do it before orientation than after b/c we will be so proud to be starting as a RN during orientation. Plus we wont be concentrating on studying and freaking out, we will be focused on our new job. I have been trying to stay positive so I havent really considered failing but if we did then at least we wouldnt have wasted time orienting. As far as the studying, I think the amount of questions is good- i am around 3000 and am feeling more comfortable. I would still read the book you got. i graduated may 7 and took a kaplan and read part of princeton book- there were some concepts i had forgotten about so i thought they helped. I dont need a permit to start as a GN, my hospital just requires we test within 45 days of getting hired. good luck on the test- im sure we will pass :)

If you test on the Saturday, scores will not normally be posted until the afternoon of the Monday. That is cutting it quite close...................

I saw that you are from PA....are you starting at HMC???

I am in the boat...I start orientation on July 11th...I want to take this wretched thing before do I can rest a few days before work starts....

I'm starting at Phoenixville Hospital in PA. I do have a GN permit, and the hospital is expecting that I am going to be starting out as a GN. I just wanted to take the Nclex ASAP. Seems like you're saying I should reschedule my test? How long do I have to wait to notify the hospital whether I passed or failed? And whether I am an RN or a GN, I will be treated the same in orientation right? I've been leaning more towards rescheduling it but I'd like some input. Thanks!

i work at phoenixville too.

i scheduled my boards right before i ended orienation. and i did end up failing :o but now when i pass im already pretty much done orientation so im told i wont have to do it all over again, i only have like 5 days leaft of orietnatin when i finally pass..

but by now you already took it or changed it so i hope you did well if you took it!

I have answered some old threads by mistake as well. Personally, the only thing I don't like about the new format of allnurses is that when they list the similar posts, they go back a LONG way bringing up dead posts from the grave.

Hello,

I'm doing orientation 6 days every 2 weeks and studying Kaplan questions. I'm taking THE test on July 15. I'm hoping I'll do great. I just want to be able to pace myself and be ready for this test. What do you think?

It seems sensible to take your boards before your orientation. Some hospitals in NC will let the student attend orientation even if you fail, and will allow you to work as a GN or find an altenate position for you, until you do pass. I will be taking my boards the second time, and I did not start working at any hospital. I will soon be able to start because I plan on PASSING the second time. Good luck to you...
