Nclex exam terrified!

Published

Hello everyone,

I am a new member of allnurses.com I just graduated from nursing school and planning to take NCLEX in like 2.5 weeks. I just took a core course on Hurst review as well which seemed to help a lot. I am doing a lot of practice questions too from Kaplan, hurst, Ati and Rea's Interactive NCLEX-RN flashcards. Could you please give me some suggestions as to what I should do in terms of taking the exam? Should I move few weeks later or the review that I am doing is enough. Also, English is my second language too and I am worried about translating questions and stuff. If anyone could give me helpful feedback, I would appreciate it.

Thank you so much.

The answer is always something a NURSE can do.

Take it, unless you feel grossly not prepared. If you don't pass, then you will have an idea of what to expect and a lot of your anxiety should be gone. At that point, it would be a matter of continuing to work and being persistent. But then, if you pass, you will be happy to have it behind you. Good luck.

First off, welcome to allnurses. We're glad you are here!:nurse:

As far as NCLEX, the sooner you take it the better. I wouldn't wait much longer than 6-8 weeks post-graduation.

I purchased the Kapan on-line course, took the NCLEX 3 weeks after graduation. I passed with 75.

All the best to you!!!:yeah:

Thank you. I am still not sure what to do. I like the idea of taking it in few weeks but then i don't know if I am quite ready yet. Ugghh, I hate when I feel this way. But, thank you again!

Take it as soon as possible, you DO HAVE the knowledge. It is more about keeping your anxiety to a minimum more than anything. Just remember the Nursing process and you can't go wrong. Good Luck future RN :)

I agree with others that you should not wait too much to take the exam.

I took a review course with Kaplan because I graduated back in 2002, and let me tell you that those 6 weeks, though very intense, prepared me for the exam. Their practice q's are just like the ones in the NCLEX. I passed with only 75 questions, and I can surely bet that every single question had something that Kaplan course taught me. I'm not trying to sell Kaplan here, but if you are already practicing questions, I think you'll be fine in 2.5 weeks for your exam.

When the day comes, remember to:

A) Take the previous evening off. Go out for a light dinner or hang out with someone: make sure you get NCLEX off your mind for a few hours prior your exam. That'll help you relax and set down everything you studied.

B) Get a good night of sleep!!!!

C) Take a deep breath once you are there. Remember that you did study A LOT, and all that info is in your head. Just relax, and let your brain do its job ;)

I wish you the best of luck! :yeah:

One thing I learned and was told by the Kaplan instructors is you never feel 100% ready to take NCLEX, and no matter how much you wait and study, you will never feel all ready for it.

I feel that the review from Kaplan prepared me well. I passed at 75 questions, no problems. Take the test as soon as you can.

Im a 75 question passer too, I did Kaplan before but still was literally dripping sweat I was so nervous before, during and after... I agree, you never feel ready but honestly if you know how to prioritize the answers like kaplan teaches you and you have a grasp on content, you'll be set!

Good luck :) I know how you are feeling, I was there in Febuary (graduated Dec 2010) you got it!

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedbacks. Honestly, I am very overwhelmed right now, but your responses has made it so much better. I am trying to practice as many questions I can. Thank you all. Congratulations to you all ad Keep up the great work for doing an amazing job out there- helping and healing the people in need of your care and compassion !

Best Regards,

Hey, by the way, I graduated from nursing school last week, and I am preparing for NCLEX as well. I am having Kaplan course, still trying to grasp their way of solving problems. I plan to take NCLEX next month.

Good luck for both of us.
