Hello everyone,
I am a new member of allnurses.com I just graduated from nursing school and planning to take NCLEX in like 2.5 weeks. I just took a core course on Hurst review as well which seemed to help a lot. I am doing a lot of practice questions too from Kaplan, hurst, Ati and Rea's Interactive NCLEX-RN flashcards. Could you please give me some suggestions as to what I should do in terms of taking the exam? Should I move few weeks later or the review that I am doing is enough. Also, English is my second language too and I am worried about translating questions and stuff. If anyone could give me helpful feedback, I would appreciate it.
Thank you so much.

Do you think that standard precautions would require a gown for all dressing changes? I wouldn't think so but perhaps the NCLEX people want for us to be better safe than sorry. I used to be confident about my abilities but now I find myself questioning everything. For instance, we were taught that diabetic moms tend to have LGA babies and the babies are frequently born hypoglycemic, but according to one of my NCLEX books this is not so. I am working so hard at basically relearning my entire nursing program because it all could be on the test and everyday that goes by is a day further away from when I first learned the material. I am going to go ahead and cancel my testing appointment again because I keep finding things I need to bone up on. This test is really getting to me. I feel like I want to cry. It's getting to be embarrassing when people ask if I've taken the test yet. I can't see myself ever being ready for it. Maybe that's part of the test, like are you strong enough for nursing. Well, back to the books. >sigh
One thing I learned and was told by the Kaplan instructors is you never feel 100% ready to take NCLEX, and no matter how much you wait and study, you will never feel all ready for it.
I think this is probably totally true. I don't think you will ever feel prepared. I am totally terrified, I have it planned for Sunday. I did ATI predictor at school, I got an 86% (66.7% before adjustment) then took it again about a month later I got a 98% (80% before adjustment). I have been taking sample tests in Hurst and my grades have been ranging from 63.2 to 69.6%. I did NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy 150 questions got a 73%.
I am taking the Hurst Review again this week and I have NCLEX planned for Sunday. I am just freakin out... I mean they are not low grades but their not really good grades either.... I know I shouldn't focus on that but still....
So guys....I don't know what to say and how to say but that exam was HORRIBLE!So I got all 265 questions. I studied so much and felt nothing really helped. But the key here is, i went to the Pvt and tried signing up again and it said....Contact the member board of nursing.. you can't register right now.. " what does that mean? does this trick really works? please let me know. i am panicking right now and i cried so much after exam. That exam made me feel so incompetent. I would appreciate if anyone would you reply to this message. Thank you. waiting for another 48 hours going to become a living hell!

Thank you! I have the whole MyChicken Hez TB, Spiderman, Mrs. Wee, VChips down pat, thank goodness. I doubt the NCLEX will be that cut and dried. I'm thinking it will be more complex and situational, like a standard precaution patient who also has a known blood borne pathogen who needs, say, a dressing change. Normally I would think a dry dressing change would only require gloves. But what if the scenario is on an AIDs patient and the dressing is expected to have drainage or an irrigation? For sure goggles, gloves, and mask for an irrigation, I think? Though normally in the hospital for standard precautions and wound irrigations I have only seen gloves used, to tell you the truth, maybe a gown. UGH! The CDC site does not give detailed explanations for selective PPE for various scenarios. I wonder what the NCLEX people want to see?
