Failed nclex

Why not using the material you have just practice answering questions and reading the rationale, even on those you got right. May help you identify keywords in questions pointing to the right answer

I've been in your situation. I failed the NCLEX PN twice before passing the exam the third attempt. After failing the second time using UWorld I decided to go with a review course like Hurst. Let me tell you that Hurst changed the way I thought and how I answered questions. I only used Hurst the entire time I was studying for my third attempt and didn't look at any other textbook or review material. My first two times I had so much handouts, looked at so much review material it proved to be overwhelming for me. Don't give up or lose hope. Right now, take a break from anything NCLEX breathe then a week later slowly get back into studying. This next attempt at studying be mentally fresh and take care of yourself physically.

JTboy29 I heard hurst is a good amongst so many other I'm struggling to find out which one will work for me. I have decided to clear my mind so that I may start fresh. I was told I must wait 45 days to test again so I'm going to take things slow and really grasp the info. Thank you for your reply I will look into hurst really don't want to fail AGAIN.

Failing anything is horrible, and I understand that empty feeling. Whenever I am in situations like this, I "allow" myself the time to "grieve", so to speak. Some people may disagree with this, and think you should immediately bounce back and try again, but I personally think it's normal to feel miserable after failure, so I allow myself that time. What I *don't* do is let it consume me and go on and on......and on. Limit it to a few days, a week, whatever...then realize that failure isn't self limiting. It is a normal part of the human condition. Pick yourself up, and try again. Yes, it sucks, and you feel crappy, but this doesn't define you unless you allow it to.

there is a book called lacharity prioritization, its great, it was the book that was most like the real nclex and its easy to read. You need to learn the nclex test taking strategies very well also. As far as trying to learn nursing facts, just get a copy of fryes 3500 nclex bullets. About the only thing hurst help me with was fluid balance and acid base. Nclex books that just tell fact after fact won't get you very far at this point because nclex test you how the new nurse feels about whats safe to do when given a common situation

but given a drug you have never heard of. That is where strategies come into play and when a question ask you to pick the heart med and you see a list of drugs you have never actually heard of,,BUT,, you see one that ends in pril or OLOL,,, you pick those. Then there are the"who to go see first" questions. Hit the safety and intervention flash cards, and fundamentals. dont study at all the day before the test except basic lab values, a fresh mind will be better than trying to learn nursing on the last day. good luck.

I used Kaplan only and was able to pass the NCLEX with that. It helps you determine how to do those types of questions and understand what the question is looking for. It helps you be able to extract what you need and be able to toss away the extra information they give you to throw you off. It costs but I felt it was worth it. Also comes with a guarantee if that helps. You will be able to pass. The great thing about failing is what we learn from it. I'v failed in my nursing journey but used it as a means to learn and grow, which has made me a better nurse. Yes it does suck when it happens but we can use it to our benefit if we allow ourselves that.
