ACID-BASE BALANCE..just saw this question from a rview ctr.just wanna know your ans..tnx..

An arterial blood gas result with a pH of 7.31, paCO2 of 39, PO2 of 92 and HCO3 of 18 indicates;

1. Respiratory alkalosis

2. Metabolic acidosis

3. Metabolic alkalosis

4. Respiratory acidosis.

respiratory acidosis?

respiratory acidosis?

actually im not really sure wat will be the correct ans.is..:crying2:

All I rmember is ROME..(resp.opposite.metabolic equal)..but still im confused..

respiratory acidosis?

if my technique works, my guess is metabolic acidosis

I will go with metabolic acidosis

It is Metabolic Acidosis b/c the pH is decreased so that indicates acidosis and the Bicarbonate is also decreased b/c normal is 22-26 (so go back to the ROME) and they are both eqaul in that they are decreased so it is metabolic acidosis!

actually im not really sure wat will be the correct ans.is..:crying2:

All I rmember is ROME..(resp.opposite.metabolic equal)..but still im confused..

can you plz more explain about just ROME. opposite equal

metabolic acidosis

Acid-base balance is one of those difficult topics that is worth the effort to get a handle on before test day. Do a search in this forum and you can find some good posts from the past on the subject.

it is metabolic acidosis because the ph is acidic (7.35-7.45), the paCO2 is normal(35-45), the HCO3 is acidic (22-26). therefore it is metabolic acidosis with no compensation.

I would go with METABOLIC ACIDOSIS as well.......
