NCLEX Content Area Report Analysis! Failed NCLEX 6/05

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello Everybody!

Well I failed the NCLEX when I took it in June 2005. I will be taking NCLEX in September when my 91 days are up. I recieved the package from the BRN. And I was wondering the content areas that they included. If anybody could tell me how / what this means in terms of studying and what I need to focus on. I would really appreciate it! I took Kaplan for my first NCLEX. I got my money back because I wanted to try another course. But I burned the Kaplan question trainer cd so help me study. I will also be joining the 7 week http://www.learningext.com course that they offer. Hopefully this will guide me in my studies.

This is the report they included in my letter:

Content Areas

- Safety and Infection Control

- Basic Care and Comfort

- Psycholosical Integrity

--> Below the Passing Standard

- Management of Care

- Reduction of Risk Potential

- Pysiological Adaptation

- Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies

--> Near the Passing Standard

- Health Promotion and Maintenance

--> Above the Passing Standard

I hope this doesn't mean I am going to be a horrible nurse! It just makes me sad looking at it. Can I get any guidance from you guys?

Dooms Day - Sept 27!

Hi

Sorry to hear you failed I did too but hopefully we will pass the second time around. All I know is you want to be above the pasing range. I think you could have passed if there were no below passing ranges. Study all the things you got below passing and the near my report was like yours. I had one below passing. Hope this helps

Hi The feedback gives you an idea on which areas of the client needs category you should focus on (below and near the passing standard). Not making it the first time has alot of factors behind it. And I think it is wisest for you to assess what could have been the major factor that lead to it.

Being comfortable with the nursing concept is very important but equally important would be your test taking skill. For you to get a good grasp of your strength and weakness you need to answer NCLEX style questions on your own. Upon checking your answers ask yourself why you were not able to get the correct answer - (did you miss important key words, were you not comfortable with a particular concept in question, etc...)

I hope this would somehow help you. :wink2: Wish you the best on your NCLEX exam this september.

What were you using to prepare for the exams besides Kaplan, and how were you studying?

I also failed and only had one area below passing the rest were all near but im not focusing on my below because you dont know what questions you will be asked the second time around....i suggest you review all the areas and do questions...especially from saunders they are really helpful to review the rationale

Did you get a copy of the detailed test plan from NCSBN? You can order it online, it only costs $10.00 and it tells the specific content that is tested in each of those areas.
