Hi All!
I have been a long time lurker to this site, and I am taking the NCLEX RN examination next week (August 8th). I feel that the common theme among test takers is anxiety, lack of confidence and self-doubt: and those statements are my main issues at this time. I graduated with my BSN this past May and I am already employed as a nursing assistant at a children's hospital. Many of my friends have taken the NCLEX and have passed. I feel that I have wasted my summer studying and haven't been able to enjoy this exciting time in my life due to this overwhelming anxiety and worry that I won't obtain my license. Through my school I have taken Kaplan: so far, I have taken over 5,000 practice questions and I feel confident with the Decision Tree.
I just feel like I have not even studied enough (I sorta know the lab values, kind of remember the meds, etc). but I feel as if I need to be focusing on these issues and I just get so overwhelmed. I know that this is a common feeling everyone experiences but I just want to take this test once.
I did a Kaplan review for my NCLEX. I was all over the place on my practice test scores. I would make a 58 on one and then a 70 on another one. I think as long as you average near the 60 mark you have a 96% chance of passing. I boarded within two days of getting my ATT and passed. Good luck to you!
NICUOH, are you in OHIO by chance? Just taking a guess based on your user name.
This is what I have been told from my friends who took the test already..."Stop studying and do practice questions." Another friend said, " Chris, relax. You got this. Stop studying it won't help, the test is all about reading carefully to make sure you know what the question is asking you."
I am the kind of person who has to study until test day, so i am studying and doing questions from Saunders CD, and I bought the Lacharity delegation book last week at Barnes & Noble. I heard this book is a must have, and I'm so glad i bought it because my scores at the beginning were not to good! Make sure you spend some time with the delegation & prioritization and Infection control if your weak in those areas...Some people are getting lots of those questions!
oztizz- i really focused on trainers 6 & 7 because they were "higher level" tests (used application and analysis levels on blooms taxonomy) and i have aimed to get above 65% in both tests. if you find any tests of those online, try them out! i like the higher level questions, because i want to be prepared for all sorts of questions.
chris- yes! i am in oh (name gives it away, lol). many of my friends have also said that too, and i am just telling myself, if they can do it and pass then i sure as heck can as well! i will have to look at this lacharity book when i get a chance. and thanks for the input: i do struggle a bit with airborne vs droplet precautions but i found a helpful acronym online so i think i got it! all there is to do is just study!
Although I took the NCLEX many years ago, I was lucky to have had an Kaplan review instructor in my final semester. She gave us the best advice that the number one reason for failing the NCLEX is test fatigue. Do a few practice sessions of 250 questions. This really helped my anxiety while pointing out areas I needed to brush up on.
I would like to add that visualizing your success is far more empowering and will give you energy while studying and fuel your success! When you visualize failure, it depletes you of energy.
Good Luck!
I'm on my 2nd round- LOL. I find it useful as an overall review so I may review it a couple more times, I do like how it gives useful tools to remember the FHR and what it means: OB is my weakest subject. I think I am going to study a few hours a day and review major content until the big day. We know the content, it is time to work on our relaxation. I may just have to give yoga a try this week LOL! :)
Mind sharing where I can find that review. I am testing next week. I need help ;-)
the lacharity book was great. i read it and did their test twice at the end of the book. i find that after reading that book the "who do i see first" questions i get mostly right. i did not so good on q6 -7. scored 59 and 55 respectively so i am nervous needless to say. i test at 8 am next week, i am sharp in the morning so the time works best. i will try to catch a movie the day before, but i know myself....i probably will study....lol
