NCLEX aarrrgghhhh

Published

hello, i am due to take my nclex for the first time at the end of April 2012, as a UK nurse hopiing to work in the USA.

I have read and read, and done lots of exam prep, your comments on what to expect are great. - thank you.

is there a site that makes the drug calculations simple! am sure that the UK way is sooooo different, or i am just been really stupid!

also if there is anyone out there from the UK, are there are nice hotels nearby in London that you can recommend to stay the night before please

thanks

Drug calculations are standard the difference are the systems of measurements, Are you using the english system or metric? but I suggest study conversions from one system to another,

hi

thanks, using metric

Are calculators allowed?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Hi Karen, I am a Uk nurse who relocated to Texas in Dec, I sat my Nclex and now working as a director of nursing here. Where are you moving to? If you have done the prep for NClex you will be fine, it is a completely differ approach to UK nursing! I had 10years experience in UK in surgical high dependency and palliative care (5 of which were as a manager) but NCLEX is not at all like anything in the UK. It sounds like you have done the work so I am sure you will be fine! :-)

Hi Scotnurse,

I am currently waiting for all my qualifications to be assessed by IELTS before i can sit my NCLEX but Paisley uni are dragging their heels with the paperwork. Can i just ask, I am an RN with 5 years experience with a higher diploma. Do i need my degree? Also did you go over with a company??

Ok I used ERES to do my evaluation. Yeah I had some probs with Uni getting paper work done. I did my bachelors in Aberdeen and masters through Dundee. No I came over then found employment. I work with nurses who mainly all hold bachelors, but some have American diplomas in nursing. I am not sure how a UK diploma will be recognized here. Wish you lots of luck let me know if I can help u in any way! :-)

hi

thanks for your message,

i have 28 years nhs experience, also independent sector and pct.

i have read lots and lots, and like you say it so different to what we do in UK.

i have medical, surgical, theatre, icu experience but not kids or psychi, so that been hard to get head round.

i am with a nursing agency who give me practice exams as part of the package, but am able to recall most of the answers now.

hoping to locate to Iowa.

Karen

Karen, You are aware of retrogression and the long wait for a immigrant visa? What visa are they taking about you getting? I took the exam 3 times and passed finally using Saunders and NCSBN learningext.com One thing to remember is think as a new grad and not someone with experience. Also do not take anything that has learning material with you to the exam center it may result in your exam becoming void. Had a few post here that did this and had major issues afterwards. If you check out pearsonvue and ncsbn website it will tell you what you can and can't bring to the center

hi

thanks for the information.

i am working with an agency who sort out the green card etc, once passed the nclex, i send out my cv to respective employees.

thanks

Nurses generally come under EB3 so currently looking at 6+ years wait for immigrant/ green card visa, not many employers are willing to wait that long. If I still was looking at the US and still had a employer I would still be waiting and my pd was Aug 06 and currently the bulletin is showing Beginning 06 ( March/May)
