NCCC students help!! Radiology and Nursing

Published

I've been researching schools in New York for radiology and nursing and I was looking to get advice from people who may know about this school. First off, for both of these programs, do they have entry to the professional program for both fall and spring? How many students does each program take and how competitive is it? Also, according to their website, it seems like they accept credits from almost any school! Thats impressive but I might be wrong. I'm thinking about transferring from Trocaire college to here. The radiology program here is super competitive and only takes students in the fall. If you are an NCCC student, what advice do you have for me?.....P.S. I've already taken my anatomy classes, micro., and a bunch of other classes including physics and ethics, would these classes transfer?

I actually graduated from NCCC 5/13 and I transferred from Trocaire to there. NCCC took all my credits accept my Ethics in Healthcare and Philosophy. Although I wasnt in the program you are speaking of. I was in Nursing. The good thing is now I am in Daemen for my BSN and they actually took those two classes. What I would suggest you do is talk to an advisor at the school for the program you are interested in and bring an unofficial transcript so they may look it over with you and better guide you.

Thats wierd, so they allowed the rigorous classes to be transferred but not ethics and philospophy? How was the Nursing program at NCCC compared to Trocaire?

When I was at Trocaire I wasn't in the nursing. I believe they didn't accept those credits because in level 4 we take a class that's required for the course that's just like Ethics in healthcare and the philosophy was just unnecessary for the program. As far as the Nursing program it's self it is very very tough! I think all nursing programs in general are tough but I was told by many of my clinical instructors that NCCC gave their students a lot of paper work for clinical. Trocaire to me felt like more of a rip off I had a 3.0 and still didn't get into the RN program there. I was told by Dr. Fanutti that I would be better off pursuing my LPN. That is why I left there and I got right into NCCC nursing program. My advice to you would be to not limit yourself and apply to every school with the program of choice you are seeking.

Thats is crazy, it must of been a competitive year when you applied for the RN program at Trocaire. I've heard that someone got in with a 2.7 something in my class and I got accepted with a 3.16. Right now Im down to a 2.81 because I failed 2 classes and got dropped from the program. I'm not sure any school would accept me at this point. I've researched ECC, D'youville, and UB but none of then are going to take me in. NCCC seems like my last option, do you think I can get a second chance there even though I failed once already?

I know for a fact you can get into NCCC and D'Youville lol! I know someone who was in nursing with me and she failed out of Trocaire's program. I don't know what exactly she had to do but I know she got in. As for D'Youville a good friend of mines failed level 2 when we were in nursing together and she got accepted to D'Youville. She had to get a letter from the head of our nursing program saying she could be readmitted or something like that. She's at D'youville now and she graduates pretty soon. UB on the other hand they may not be so forgiving because they are a very competitive school. What I can tell you is this DONT GIVE UP! If I would have gave up I would not be a Registered Nurse today. Just because you hear a no, don't stop. Another option to could be to just finish at Trocaire... You have a lot of options. If I were you I would get in contact with people in the nursing department and see what your options are.

Thanks for responding NewNurse_13. I've asked D'youville and they said they don't accept people who already failed out in the Nursing program. They told me that the only way to get accepted into thier RN program was to get a letter for reacceptance from Trocaire to get into the RN program at D'youville. That doesn't make sense to me because I wouldn't go to d'youvillle if I got a second chance at trocaire. Plus trocaire is cheaper than d'youville. Maybe your friend got accepted because she made it to lv. 2 nursing. I failed lv.1 nursing, so maybe thats the reason they wont accept me...trocaire told me that I'll be hearing fron them thus month for reacceptance for fall and so far I've heard nothing.

I think you will get back in if not you have other options. I feel like eventually you will need a BSN anyways because when I tell you it's very hard to obtain a job it is exactly that. I was working at a nursing home (that I hated) and was recently laid off. The whole 6months I was there I was looking for a job. I had interviews(several) and got no job. I've applied to hospitals and have been told by HR they are taking preference for RN's with their BSN. Even then so they want experience too. So if I were you I would cross off a 4 year college based on cost alone.

I probably will go for my BSN eventually but for now I'm trying to get reaccepted to this ADN program. I talked to the advisor at d'youville, called her and e-mailed her, and she clearly stated that they don't accept failures from other schools. It even says that on the website.

Hello, I am in the nursing program at NCCC, I got accepted with a 3.92 it is very competitive, I was told they didn't take below a 3.0 for Fall 2014, but who knows. Hundreds of people apply, but if you are interested talk to an adviser. Applications were due by Feb. 1st though.

Thanks, I posted this ages ago. Does getting my lpn give me a better chance to get accepted into their RN program?

Not really. But u will have the advantage of skipping the 1st year of an associates RN program coming in as an LPN. If the school u complete ur LPN at is accredited that is.
