Navy Nurse and Tattoos???

Published

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering what was the limit of the amount and the location of tattoos Navy nurses are allowed to have to pass initial inspection?

I am currently in nursing school and I will graduate with a BSN in May 2011; I am just researching the many career paths in which I could take my nursing career.

Thank You so much!

For the most part for all services the tatoos can not be visible on the neck, face, hands. Also they can not be racist, in poor taste etc. Each service does have its own requirement.

I have tattoos on both arms, shoulders to wrists (sleeves in progress), and I am too tattooed for the Navy. Or the Air Force. However, the Army will take me! :D But as jeck said, nothing that is offensive, racist, etc., is permitted. I had to fill out some extensive paperwork for my tattoos. (And good grief, I don't really realize how many I have until I have to describe every.single.tattoo! LOL)

lunah....the stupid question...why so many tats? i am speaking as someone who has always wanted one but could never really go through with it...just wondering what is the appeal??

It's not a stupid question, but it's not really one I can answer, either. :) Tattoos have always appealed to me on a few levels, and it's not really something that I can explain.

I don't know you personally, Lunah, but your many tattoos seem to fit your personality. :)

I think tats are cool; I'm just too chicken to get one. I have seen some absolutely gorgeous works of art on people in my day. I think they're cool.

I have had the very good fortune to meet Lunah and she is a wonderful person. She is so vibrant! And yes...her tats do fit her.

Awwww, thanks! :D

I also think they are cool. I have seen a few of the tribal designs that are just amazing. I am starting to see older and older patients with ink and they are always so happy to talk about them. think about 20-30 years from now how many nursing homes will have patients with full sleeves and such...

That cracks me up - all the old hippies sitting around with their tats and stories of the freewheeling '60s....what WILL the dementia patients be like then? :)

I'm hoping to meet Lunah when she gets to Ft Sam (and maybe even BAMC)!

When I was 17, I got a turquoise dolphin frolicking in the surf tatooed on my ankle....it seemed so cool at the time. :uhoh3:

I'll be that little old lady that points to all my sagging tattoos, saying, "This used to be a dragon, and this used to be a flower..." Ha ha! :D

Carolinapooh, that will be awesome! :)
