Hi everyone!
I'm submitting a packet to hopefully direct commission into the Navy Nurse Corps. I have about 4.5 years of experience in a couple different specialties but I submitted for med/surg. It's been about a year process (some of that was me dragging my feet). I have gone to MEPS, submitted my background, and from what I was told my credentialing process is in "final review." I know that I have to do my two interviews but I'm not sure what else is left. There is a lot of helpful information about the interviews on Reddit but I'm looking for any insight to those have done direct commissioning. I'm a prior enlisted hospital corpsman but this process has been SO much different. A little more difficult in my opinion. Thanks everyone!

I found out today that I was selected!! My recruiter called and said that I have been selected and will come in as O2e!!
Timeline:
- Packet submitted first week of December for January 15th board
-Phone call 01/24 that I was selected!
This is so awesome congrats. Mine was submitted end of November so maybe I'll get lucky for this month. Keep us updated on your dates and your orders. I'll do the same! 🙂
Hang in there!! If your packet was submitted end of November- there was no December board due to holidays- it should have been looked at for the January 15th board. My recruiter said she got the results like close of business Friday and then called me. Fingers crossed Monday is your day!
I am really hoping for Yokosuka, Japan!!
How does the Pack-out for home goods work? Will the Navy come pack my house out before ODS or after?
The detailer sent me a link for military one source. I honestly haven't looked at it yet. But I was nervous about the move stuff, that's one reason I picked my home state. I just have to move about 4 hours to the base once my spouse and I close on a house. But I don't believe you can start the move process until you have a hard copy of your orders.

You'll get orders long before you go to ODS. When you get orders you'll be able to call the military's travel management office (TMO) to schedule you're move.
Okay guys I got my call today. I got approved!

@DakotaPartin. Yayyyy, happy for you. Hopefully you get the rest of the details soon.
I have been trying for days to access milconnect to pull up my record and lord why are these military websites so useless.
Congratulations!! Such a huge accomplishment!!
I knew you'd get it 👏💪
Now for the waiting game... My recruiter said within the next couple of weeks I should be getting sworn in and signing a lot of paperwork, and should hear from the detailer to get an ODS date and duty station orders.
Where are you hoping to go? Did you fill out the dream sheet?
@DakotaPartin congrats!! Keep us posted on the details. A lot to come.

Congrats! That's amazing you got selected. The timeline on the board is weird. You have to be submitted by the 15th of the month before. I was delayed another month because I was submitted the 18th. At any rate, it's done now.
My recruiter didn't give many details either, or maybe I didn't want to be a bother, and what I did get was kind of confusing but it finally all made sense. It's definitely a convoluted process. That's why I was trying to give as much detail here for future nurses going through the process.
As far as working with the detailer, it was just a casual conversation. The phone call was around 3-4 minutes. Very quick, I stepped out of the Cath lab and into the hallway between cases when she called (*from a TN number-don't ignore it* haha). I wanted NC, she said OK you got it. That was about it. We talked about platforms, I.e. EMF vs EMU. She got me on one of those in my orders along with the hospital assignment.
There is no talk about floor assignments. I'm designated critical care; however, I know they can assign me wherever they need me. I guess that will happen during hospital orientation and meeting my division commander (unit manager) or whatever the terminology is. I have a lot to learn about Navy terms. I'll just work on blooming where I'm planted, and learning the Navy way.
Any idea where you want to be stationed? Come to the May ODS class if you can!
@USNtoMSN so the background check was explained to me as they do a preliminary, then following selection they do the complete background and review medical documents before the oath is cut and you're sworn in. I'm guessing they don't want to waste the money to do the full background investigation if you're not going to be selected.
I'm coming in as an O-2E based on my years of nursing. From looking at the entry grade credit worksheet, I'd have to have a graduate degree to come in as an O3. However, I had excess credit for years of nursing experience that counted toward Time in Grade, so I should pick up O-3E within a few months of starting my active duty time. This information was all sent to me with my commissioning documents (emergency data, bank info, NOK, spouse info, etc) after I was sworn in.
As far as finding out about my selection, my recruiter sent me a text. It'll drop when you're not expecting it, so just don't think about it. LOL
After the selection and oath being received by my recruiter, I just gave him the details about the date, time, and location I wanted to swear in. Since I'm a former enlisted Marine, I chose to do mine at the Iwo Jima Memorial at Parris Island. I had to coordinate that with base representatives, but they were all amazing.
My recruiter sent me my oath to have my commissioning officer sign following him swearing me in. The commissioning documents followed in an email. It was a bunch of stuff I had to sign.
Yea now I'm just getting ready for ODS. I talked to the detailer and got my duty station and ODS date in that two or three week time period between my oath coming in and when I swore in. I was busy moving, so I couldn't swear in right away.
ODS date is in May. When she first contacted me she didn't have any seats before then; however, she called back a couple weeks later and offered a sooner class date but I'm on this current travel contract I'm wanting to finish up.
Let me know if you have any other questions or if I missed anything. Good luck! 🙂
