Navy Nurse Corps 2024-2025

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm submitting a packet to hopefully direct commission into the Navy Nurse Corps. I have about 4.5 years of experience in a couple different specialties but I submitted for med/surg. It's been about a year process (some of that was me dragging my feet). I have gone to MEPS, submitted my background, and from what I was told my credentialing process is in "final review." I know that I have to do my two interviews but I'm not sure what else is left. There is a lot of helpful information about the interviews on Reddit but I'm looking for any insight to those have done direct commissioning. I'm a prior enlisted hospital corpsman but this process has been SO much different. A little more difficult in my opinion. Thanks everyone!

I've also submitted to March 15 boards.  Anyone had any info yet about when we'll hear back?

Nevermind I just saw the previous comments that answered my question.

Update:

So that others can have an estimated timeline while reading through these posts, I got a call yesterday saying my commission was approved. My recruiter said that I should receive an official letter by next week, receive my oath to office in about 3 weeks to a month, and during that timeframe, someone will call me to talk to me about available ODS seats. Good luck everyone!

Hey everyone! I submitted my packet for the January board and was notified by my recruiter about a week later on 01/24 that I was selected! I waited THREE months for my FINSEL (Final Selection letter) that just came in on 04/08.  My recruiter said they are back logged and taking a  longer for documents to be uploaded. Now I am waiting for my commissioning documents to swear in and a call from the detailer.  I'm still hoping to go to ODS in July.
Thanks for the update- it's a long and lonely road when no one else I know is going through the process! And it helps me keep my recruiter accountable and checking on my documents if I tell her "someone I know just received theirs,” LOL

I had about the same timeline. I got selected in January. I have my paperwork but haven't signed it. My recruiter is on leave so I will sign it and swear in on the 8th. BUT I already talked to the detailer, I will be going to ODS starting June 8th and they are making us all go through the med 101 course or whatever it is right after ODS is done. That will be 5 days in Bethesda, Maryland and they said it doesn't matter that I'm not a new grad, everyone has to go. I will then be stationed in SD at NMCSD and will be told where I'll be working once I get there.

@DakotaPartin

That's amazing that you have your ODS date!! How did it go when you talked to the detailer about orders? Did they ask when you wanted to go to ODS or did they tell you what they had available? And for the duty station- did you request San Diego and get it?  I'm waiting by my phone for it to ring like I'm waiting for the winning lottery numbers to be announced 😂 I'm still hoping to go to ODS this Summer- hopefully June or July!  Also, did you ever receive any mail/packet detailing your rank or ODS details?

@DakotaPartin or anyone else who knows 🙂

How long do you have after ODS and the training in Bethesda to report to your duty station? Also, when do we start getting paid? After we swear in or once we are in ODS?

Up to ten days. Start getting paid in ODS.  That's when you're actually gained into the Navy.

@BeaBea

I had 2 interviews, one with a CAPT and one with an LCDR.  They were both great- the Captain's background was in L&D and she was the CO of a DC clinic. She said that L&D nurses are in high demand and she sees billets for them daily. She said there isn't a deployment schedule to a sea/shore rotation, but that we usually stay at a duty station for 2 years and have a lot of freedom to move around between working the floor, management, teaching, clinic, etc.  She said she absolutely loves her life as a Navy Nurse and made me really excited.  I haven't been offered a rank yet, although I'm expecting O2-e or O3-e.

Hi! I submitted early March for April 15 boards and nothing so far. Do you know where the greatest L&D need is?

I am so happy for everyone in this post. It looks like we're all getting some wonderful news. My Psych NP package will be reviewed this month-tomorrow May 15th, and I hope to have some good new for you guys. I am currently in the Army, 23 years as a reservist. The Army is taking their time and I am getting too old to wait. The Navy aligns with my goals in life and where I want to be. Bittersweet, but it's a move that I must make. Please pray for me. @DakotaPartin thank you for starting this post. To those who are heading to ODS, best of luck, you got this.  Whether I make it or not, I will provide you with updates.

FINSEL is pending the completion of your security clearance and final review of your MEPS documents.

OMG, so you can get selected and then be denied during FINSEL based on security clearance and MEPS?  I was under the impression those two were completed prior to the board...but I am still learning. Good luck in ODS and Navy Medicine 101. You'll do great.
