Navy NCP FY2016 Applicants

Published

Hi!

I noticed there wasn't one for the FY of 2016, and I start my package on Monday to be sent to the boards August 1st. (My recruiter told me the earlier the better). So same thing as the last thread, this will be an area to calm nerves and answer questions. Good luck to all who apply, or are thinking of applying!

Don't tread on me- I was also going to ask how long you waited between finding out you got the professional recommend and finalizing that you were actually accepted into the program. Also, did you start receiving the stipend after you swore in in May, or when you were officially accepted?

I feel like this whole process has not been very clear, nor explained very well to me. It's a little frustrating. Even last night, when I heard from my recruiter, he told me I was accepted into the program. No mention on a professional recommend and that I still might not be officially in the program. Thanks for helping to clear up the process for us. And good luck to everyone!

I feel your pain I still haven't heard back either. I think the military is on a 96 for the holiday weekend so earliest we should know is Wednesday :(

Due to the government shut down last year, I heard the decision of my recommendation in December. But I believe it took about 2- weeks to a month until results were finalized. After swearing in May, it took about 3 - 4 weeks for me to receive my benefits. I was very patient during the waiting process because I knew the last thing I needed to do was annoy my recruiter and processor, during a stressful time and kept my mind on studying for school. Even though there were a few bumps in the application process, after I received the phone call from my recruiter, everything else didn't matter. A lot of things will be unclear and frustrating but that is just how the military is.

When I spoke to my recruiter he said I was selected pending FBI background check and once that clears he would begin setting up the docs to commission and it could be all done by December.

Professional recommendation occurs before the board convenes, the board has met and made their decision. What we are gettingnow is the results of the selection list. If you heard that you are on the list, you are on the list for the program. This is not professional recommendations that we are getting at this point this is "congratulations you are in"

Weird that is not what I was told. I got a call from my recruiter saying that was selected as a professionally recommended applicant after boards met, but decisions still had to be finalized and was instructed to hold off celebrating until I heard for sure since situations could change.

Note: you don't commission until you graduate nursing school, you are put on an NCO (Non-commissioned Officer) Status of OCUI2 (Officer Candidate Under Instruction Second Class)/E5 until you graduate nursing school.

Don't tread on me, the fact that we are not commissioned until after graduation is a separate issue that does not relate to being professionally recommended to boards and then actually being selected. Of course it makes sense that commissioning would not take place until after successfully completing an accredited nursing program, the ability to remain in the NCP is contingent upon that but that again is a separate issue from actually being selected post-boards. I have spoken to my recruiter and as well read up on the process and it is the case that once you have been placed on the board's selection list you are in provided you complete you nursing program and maintain the minimum GPA requirements. I know for a fact that my notice from the Navy said congratulations on your NCP selection, my professional recommendation took place in order to be reviewed by the board in the first place.

Happycoma, my note for commissioning was for kickstunt.

But if that is what you read and were told, then you may be right. I was told differently and received a letter of confirmation from BUMED roughly a month later. No need to turn the situation into hostile debate of "No you are wrong and I am right" type of thing, I am just stating what happened from my experience.

But regardless, congratulations on being selected into the NCP. If you have any more questions other than being "professionally recommended", since that issue is has now been cleared up, feel free to ask.

Don't tread,

If you go to the Navy personnel website, all this info is published publicly there. You say you didn't get a confirmation letter until about a month later, it states as much on the website. I think though that you are misunderstanding the process in general, the selection list is posted and finalized now, and recruiters are notifying their respective applicants that they are/aren't in. The fact that it takes the government a month to issue the official congratulatory letters is not a reflection of how much longer it takes for the decision to be made, but the fact that paperwork within the military takes awhile. So while it is true that we will be waiting for our official letters for some time, it is not true that it is because this is not the final outcome. There is no hostility here mate, but it seemed pertinent to discuss this further especially when you state things that may cause folks to question the outcome and good news that they have received.
