Navy hopefuls waiting for ODS date/Station

Published

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back on their ODS date and first station for the Navy Nurse Corps?

My packet went before the boards late Oct/early Nov and my recruiter informed me that I had been "professionally recommended" early in December (I'm still not sure if this means that I'm definitely in, felt kind of vague). Still waiting on the final select letter, commission date and orders.

The wait was getting kind of lonely (your loved ones mean well when they ask you "so have you heard anything from the Navy?" but after so many months it becomes the question you dread hearing at family functions) so I thought I would see if there was anyone else on this forum waiting with baited breath.

MidinPhx, thanks for sharing, the travel sounds like a great opportunity to explore.

Bitbuc, I've heard many different things about commissioning ceremonies, from informal swearing in in the recruiting station parking lot to having a large group friends and family attend. I haven't heard of many doing so in their uniform though; the problem is you're supposed to wait until ODS to get your uniform so that you can get specifically what they want to you to. Also I'm not sure if you recieve your bars until ODS; are you prior service? Have you asked your recruiter about it?

farawaysoclose, i actually didnt do a tour of the big three. i figured a hospital is a hospital. i'm still undecided yet where i want to be stationed first. i've been in the east coast my whole life so i kind of want to go west just for the heck of it but i guess we'll have to see.

Yes I am prior service. I have friend that is retired and she is giving me alot of her uniforms. Thank god one is the mess dress

I can not seem to get the recruiter to email me the package to work on....anyhow my last BSN final is may 25th, hows the package look???

When you say package do you mean to application packet forms? My recruiter had a detailer email me individual components over time to complete step by step. There is a medical pre-screen form for before you go to MEPS, request form for MEPS, security clearance which you do online (basically your life history), your basic application form (kind of long, includes space for personal statement), form for Scrolls, application for commission, duty preference sheet, resume, 3 letters of recommendation, 2 interviews (you won't have to send in anything for this, but make sure your detailer recieves the evaluation from the interviewers in a timely manner), college transcripts, copy of proof of citizenship and I think that's basically it although I might have forgotten a couple of things.

interesting, I already held a topsecret clearance from when I was ad, so i think i still have the copy of the paperwork so i wont have to dig up all that info AGAIN!!! I just wish they'd start my ball rolling!!!

My wife's packet was accepted in late September and supposedly she is in for FY0910. We have her acceptance letter from the Navy and we are also playing the waiting game and haven't heard anything yet about her swearing in or ODS. Annoying...

I finally heard back, my recruiter has told me that there are a lot of critical care nurses who applied for this FY, and I lack experience entirely, and that my chances are not looking good but I'll have a better chance next October. It was a pretty disappointing piece of news to get after all the waiting, all the work and all the hopes of serving. Looks like it's time to look into another career path since there's no way I can wait several more months to start. Hope everyone else gets better news.

Hey Anyone with info,

I have been accepted into the Navy Nurse Corps for this year as an alternate. My recruiter told me that I was number 69 of the 65 spots that got picked up this year. I was just wondering if anyone had any info about the likelyhood of people backing out and since this whole Haiti disaster, what the chances of them expanding on the number they take. But any info about any of it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm sorry that your recruiter didn't have good news for you, farawaysoclose. I'm afraid that I'll be probably hearing back the same thing from mine. Don't lose hope though if this is something that you really want to do I'm sure things will work out for you :)

Thank you, StarburstRN, I hope you hear something better from your recruiter. Good luck :)

My wife heard back from her recruiter this week and he said her name was on the most recent scrolls. He says she should be swearing in sometime in the next two weeks at the latest. Still no idea on when or where we'll be going, but I guess it's progress.
