Navy hopefuls waiting for ODS date/Station

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back on their ODS date and first station for the Navy Nurse Corps?

My packet went before the boards late Oct/early Nov and my recruiter informed me that I had been "professionally recommended" early in December (I'm still not sure if this means that I'm definitely in, felt kind of vague). Still waiting on the final select letter, commission date and orders.

The wait was getting kind of lonely (your loved ones mean well when they ask you "so have you heard anything from the Navy?" but after so many months it becomes the question you dread hearing at family functions) so I thought I would see if there was anyone else on this forum waiting with baited breath.

i'm right there with you! i submitted my package early sept and have been waiting since. i haven't heard from my recruiter since i was professionally recommended in late november and i've gotten tired of calling him to get the same answer. just wait a bit longer.

i'm some what relieved that i'm not the only one waiting to hear back from the navy...!! im just waiting for ANY news now so i can DO something instead of feeling like im pointlessly waiting around....

It's a load off to know that I'm not the only one waiting especially since it's been such a long wait; looking back at my emails I heard from my recruiter that I got prof. rec.ed on Dec. 1st and I haven't heard anything back since.

I understand what you mean about just wanting to hear any news; as much as I want to be in the NNC I can't move on and look for something else until I know for sure. But I want to get moving again and get something done!

When did you start the process?

You navy hopefuls aren't the only ones in the dark. Air Force wait is just as bad. I'm in your boat.... or plane, whatever it may be. lol.

I told my friends and family not to ask, I would definately tell them. Asking and wishing well was just so difficult all the time.

Good luck and stay positive!

Hey, MidinPhx, is Sgt. Freeman your recruiter? He was the AZ recruiter I spoke with when I was considering the AF.

Yep, that's my recruiter. Why'd you choose Navy over AF?

I like the coast better lol :lol2: Seriously I'm not sure I could put it into exact words; the Navy just felt right for me, it meshed. It could just be because I first considered military nursing after seeing a recruiting presentation by a Navy nurse and everything she told us about the Navy Nurse Corps sounded amazing to me.

Why did you decide to go Air Force?

farawaysoclose, i first contacted my recruiter april before i graduated this may. i knew i was kinda late in getting started but i didn't think i'd have to wait this long. as far as why i decided to go into the navy is the same as you too. i just appealed to me more than any of the other branches without an exact reason :)

I'm prior service Army. I did my 3 years, and used my college fund... BSN. I did what I had set out to do. I had signed up just for that. But I've wanted to go back for years. I spent alot of time at Ramstein AFB while stationed in Germany. We army minions always envied how the AF lived and were treated. I never even thought Navy, it is so different from what I knew. Air Force just a better fit for me. I value any of the services equally though!

Starburst, I started trying to get in contact with a recruiter at about the same time, but I think it was May when I actually got in contact with one haha. Did you get to do a tour of one of the big 3? Which one is on the top your your PCS wish list?

MidinPhx, what did you do in the Army? How was Germany?

I was a 55B, ammunition specialist. AKA: beebee stacker or ammo humper. Some nice recruiter tried to tell me that that wasn't a job for a girl, so I said yes! I would love to find that guy and thank him for trying to help a stubborn 18yo girl, because he was right. lol.

I loved my time in Germany. I was 18 and all alone and across that chain linked fence, it wasn't America, and I cried that first day. But I got over that and used the rec office to travel and explore. It was a hard being alone. But the internet would make that distance so much less daunting now. So go travel!

I was told that I was selected on nov 8 and my orders are suppose to be cut on the 22nd. I leave for ODS April 11. I am going to Camp Legeune NC. My recruiter told me to call the detailer. I haven't heard about my commissioning date though. Has anyone else done it in uniform? My family wanted to put my bars on me to make it a little more special.
