Is anyone else still waiting to hear back on their ODS date and first station for the Navy Nurse Corps?
My packet went before the boards late Oct/early Nov and my recruiter informed me that I had been "professionally recommended" early in December (I'm still not sure if this means that I'm definitely in, felt kind of vague). Still waiting on the final select letter, commission date and orders.
The wait was getting kind of lonely (your loved ones mean well when they ask you "so have you heard anything from the Navy?" but after so many months it becomes the question you dread hearing at family functions) so I thought I would see if there was anyone else on this forum waiting with baited breath.
hello Farawaysoclose,
I have been following the threads about Navy Nurse selection and ODS..I to am waiting to hear back if I got selected from the last committee meeting..It seems like you also have been waiting awhile as have I..have you heard anything?? what is your email so we can exchange stories there as well..
Hello Backflipx2,
I just heard back a couple of weeks ago that my commission into the NNC was approved and found out my duty station and ODS date last week: San Diego and Jan 2nd. It was a long wait but things seem to be moving pretty fast now and I'm very excited to start my career with the Navy. I'm not completely comfortable with sharing my email on a public forum, nothing personal, I just don't like :spam: , but we can certainly private message on here if you want to chat about Navy application experiences. Let me know if you hear anything back and good luck.
Farawaysoclose,
That is excellent news for you...I understand your hesitant to share you email on a public forum thats why I posted mine and you can email me..Did you hear from you recruiter?? ..I am guessing I did not get selected if you found out and I did not..my account will not let me private message for some reason. That is great you got San Diego..It is an amazing hospital as I live in San Diego and did my nursing school in San Diego.
Backflipx2,
How long ago did you start applying? Did you send a packet to last year's selection board? I've been applying for a year and a half and was professionally recommended last year by the board but had to wait for a slot to open up which didn't happen until slots for FY2011 opened up. So if this is your first time applying to the nurse corps and there are still a lot of applicants then you may have to wait until next year if you are selected. If you do have to wait it may be a good idea to try to find a job in the mean time to get some experience even if it's per diem work or in a less desirable facility. My recruiter didn't mention how many slots were open or how many applicants there were. If I were you, I'd email or call your recruiter and ask him or her to check on the status of your application; I emailed my recruiter every once and a while to ask him to check and see what was going on with the selection process.
Farawaysoclose,
Yeah thanks for the info. I actually spoke with my recruiter yesterday and he mentioned that my packet was with the boards now, which he said made me lucky because some people submitted their packet in Feb and still were not sitting with the boards...so I guess we shall see..He did mention that they are backed up from last year. I definitely have a back up plan to get experience and then hopefully if I get selected start my career with the Navy. Good luck in January.

Farawaysoclose,
I think you should keep your packet in play. In the mean time, so find a job and live life. The experience will only benefit you. Don't give up on your military dreams. I still haven't and I still have heard nothing. I was told I would hear something in 2-3 weeks.... that was 16 days ago. And yes, I could days.
I wish you well.
