Please any information would be greatly appreciated.... Can Navy Hospital Corpsman challenge the LPN exam to get their license? I have been a Corpsman for the last 5 years. 3 of those years going back and forth between the ICU and the Cardiac Ward. Currently in the IM clinic. PLEASE HELP!!!

I don't think you can. I don't think you can even challenge the RN exam. They require you to graduate from an LPN or RN program.

From some of the old threads I'm reading, it seems that depending on the state you can challenge the LPN exam.

There is also a Military nursing section under the Specialty tab.

Check with your state board of nursing (in fact check all of them..sine it's a federal school)..I know 91C (Army Practical Nurses) board upon graduation. I would think though, that since you weren't offered the opportunity to board, you can't. Worth checking though...Good luck.

I know someone who did this a few years ago in NM.

title 19, legislative rules, west virginia board of examiners for registered professional nurses, series 3 requirements for registration and licensure and conduct constituting professional misconduct states the following on page 2:

3.1.b. applicants seeking licensure as veterans in lieu of the educational qualifications specified in subdivision 3.1.c. of this rule, and qualifying under w. va. code 30-24-1 et seq. an applicant who is a veteran shall:

3.1.b.1. have completed an approved four-year high school course of study or an equivalent course of study, as determined by the appropriate educational agency;

3.1.b.2. be of good moral character;

3.1.b.3. have served on active duty in the medical corps of any of the armed forces of the united states for at least one (1) year within the three (3) year period immediately preceding the date of application and have successfully completed the course of instruction required to qualify her or him for rating as a medical specialist advanced, medical service technician or advanced hospital corpsman technician, or other equivalent rating in her or his particular branch of the armed forces;

3.1.b.4. be honorably discharged from military service; and,

3.1.b.5. request and submit to the board the results of a state and a national electronic criminal history records check by the state police.

it can be done in west virginia in some circumstances. you would need to contact the west virginia board of examiners for registered professional nurses to have your military training/education evaluated to determine compliance.

also, i can't find it now but i recall seeing a comment on their website that since this was licensure without attending an approved educational program that a license obtained using this method could not be endorsed to another state.

good luck in your future endeavors, and thank you for your service to our country.

semper fidelis!
