National University SD Cohort 57 - Jan 2019

Published

Hi all!

My name is Claire and I am going to be applying for my last chance to get into the NU ABSN program in San Diego. I've attempted two times previously and have been denied. First time I believe I missed the cut off by a point or two so I improved my TEAS and essay then applied again and was denied by 3/4 of a point which was pretty devastating but I wasn't going to give up. I went and retook Micro because that was my only C and got an A so now I'm going in with an 89% TEAS, 3.75/5 on the essay and I think a 3.75. I missed the this more recent cohort 56 cutoff but I plan to apply to the next one in July and hopefully raise my TEAS and essay. I'm just so nervous because this is my last chance! I've basically disqualified myself from other institutions because I took the TEAS too many times and some of my prereq's are expired according to other colleges. This is literally my dream and I won't give up! Any one else applying and can share the pain lol :)

(MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) will send out an email letting you know there's been a "change" in the status of your application. You then are directed to soar where you log in and next to where you see "submitted" now it will read "pending acceptance, denied etc) (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) will not send out your essay score unless you specifically ask after you've been accepted or denied.

This is has been how it's gone in the past.

For myself, it's all going to come down to the essay; Does anyone know when we might hear how we did?

4-6 weeks. (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) said earliest would be end of September, but expect results in early October to be safe. It all depends how long it takes the professors to grade their essays.

I haven't - but I also haven't heard of a lot of scores in general because you have to ask to get your score whereas the other scores you know immediately. I'm sure if you answered everything else and your essay was strong you'll be fine. My only thought would be that they may take that as you're unable to complete a task under pressure. :/

Hey all! I am just wondering if anyone has previously or know of someone who received a great score on their essay but didn't fully finish? I only got two sentences finished for my conclusion before I had to stop typing. :(

Good luck to everyone that applied to Cohort 57.

I've been reading these forums for while and have decided to go for Cohort 58 ABSN in October.

I believe I have a good idea of what I might need for the essay.

Here is where I stand

GPA - 3.844

TEAS - 86.0 Obviously I want to do better when I apply, but proud of this so far. 1st time.

38.44 + 34.4 (TEAS) = 72.84

For acceptance for sure I would need at least a 4/5 on the essay for 16 points.

This would put me at 88.84.

Worried about the increasing averages needed for acceptance (87+), so I hope it falls a little bit so I can have a cushion on the essay in case I do worse than expected.

I'll jump into the next forum when it gets started, but very grateful for everyone here passing along great information our way. Keep it coming!

Just curious, did you apply then pull out of cohort 57 or you planned for 58?

I decided way before in waiting to use one of my three tries to apply for National ABSN program. I didn't realize I would make a decent TEAS score just by trying it at SDSU. With an 86, I will study the areas of needed to improve and see if I can do better taking it at National for the October application date.

Hopefully my visit with someone at the Spectrum writing center can direct me in my writing for it. I feel confident I could write decent essay, but i've heard many people get better essay grades because they reached out.

Gonna be very ready for the October date for applying. Hopefully.

Do you happen to know what extra points being a prior medic/corpsman is? I applied for this cohort and am trying to accurately calculate my score.

They add a full extra point :)

They add a full extra point :)

Awesome, thank you! For the GPA it's only the (AP1/ AP1LAB, AP2/AP2LAB, MICRO/MIRCOLAB, BIOSTAT) or is it all the prerequisites?

Yep just those ones. You can email (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) during the week and she can tell you exactly what your nursing GPA is. She is very punctual!

Full extra point for being corpsman or full extra point for medical experience???

I have heard that if you have military medic experience you get a point added
