National University SD Cohort 57 - Jan 2019

Published

Hi all!

My name is Claire and I am going to be applying for my last chance to get into the NU ABSN program in San Diego. I've attempted two times previously and have been denied. First time I believe I missed the cut off by a point or two so I improved my TEAS and essay then applied again and was denied by 3/4 of a point which was pretty devastating but I wasn't going to give up. I went and retook Micro because that was my only C and got an A so now I'm going in with an 89% TEAS, 3.75/5 on the essay and I think a 3.75. I missed the this more recent cohort 56 cutoff but I plan to apply to the next one in July and hopefully raise my TEAS and essay. I'm just so nervous because this is my last chance! I've basically disqualified myself from other institutions because I took the TEAS too many times and some of my prereq's are expired according to other colleges. This is literally my dream and I won't give up! Any one else applying and can share the pain lol :)

Thank you! 3.51 unfortunately. I'm hoping that with a high enough teas and essay that I should be okay. I spoke with someone (not sure who) in the nursing dept. today and she started that the average teas score of those admitted during this previous cycle was a 88... so fingers AND toes are crossed lol.

The last cohort scores were crazy high for acceptance (87 points) and alternate was 85.99. I'm really hoping that it comes down this time so we all at least have a chance.

Does anyone know how they penalize for retaking a course? If it is actual points being deducted, how and where are the points taken out? They weren't clear about that in the forum and I haven't seen anything in writing. I really hope its not full points!

I remember seeing the scoring posted on one of the other forums. I think they do deduct points, but I can't remember how it works. Call (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) today and ask. Let us know what she says!

Hi All, I stopped reading these forum posts for a while because they were stressing me out, everyone has such great GPA's and did so well on the TEAS. AHH :). I've decided to look at this round as just my first attempt. Does anyone know if applying multiple times counts against you in any way? I know you get 4 attempts. My GPA is not great, 3.3. Does anyone know exactly what classes they use to calculate this? I get a 3.4 when I do it. So I have to get an 88% and a 5/5 on my essay to be considered. The 5/5 is NOT going to happen so I'm shooting for at least a 90% on the TEAS and a 4/5 on the essay. I'm NOT getting 90's on my practice tests, I feel defeated. I doubt I'll get in this time with two weeks of studying under my belt and I took these prerequisites at night after work 10 years ago. Not too fresh in the memory banks ;). So I'll get a feel for it this round and take the TEAS outside of National until I get a 90%. I know this first attempt kinda screws me with other schools if I don't do my best on the first 2 attempts. Good luck to everyone! Sounds like there are some really strong candidates here.

I just heard back from (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) that I actually have a 3.7 so my total is 86.72. I really hope that's enough this time around - I feel like it's getting more and more competitive!

Hi chasing summer! So first- I wanted to make sure you knew that you only get 3 tries to get in! I would know because this is my last try!! Application Attempts don't count against you,

But retaking courses does. Also you can take the TEAS as many time as you want at other schools (that's what I did) until you get a score you like :-)

The gpa is calculated with the math and sciences- ask Elizabeth- she can do it for you :-)

I was in the same boat, having 10+ year gaps between now and my pre req's and I definitely recommend some refreshers between taking th TEAS. The TEAS seems to be a lot of random ?'s with some are in depth and some are so simple.

I ended up retaking Micro because I originally got a C so I went back and got an A to raise my GPA. During that class I realized how much information I had forgotten and how much information now made sense to me on the TEAS that didn't before so again, I recommend a refresher!

Are you not planning on retaking the essay portion?

I am but I'm not the best writer so I'm going into it assuming I'm not going to do better. I will also retake the TEAS again just because .... why not?

Why not is right! Im retaking both also. I have met with the writing center tutors 3 times a week since June and it's literally driving me crazy. I can't wait to get it over with! Your scores look pretty good, I'm sure you'll get it this time!

Hello everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone felt about the essay and the TEAS this week. I'm not feeling very confident about the essay portion. Even with all the practice essays I wrote I feel like I got the prompt that I was least comfortable with. I guess we will see. Retook the TEAS and got a worse score than my previous so I submitted a different score. Heavy sigh. Here's to waiting 6 weeks :(

Hey!i went into yesterday thinking I would raise any scores and I ended up raising my TEAS from 89.3 to 90.7 haha. I'll take it! Lol the essay on the other hand I have no clue. We shall see! Here's to the next 6 weeks guys!!!!

That is amazing! Good for you! I asked (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) what the average TEAS was yesterday and she said it was around 80. That brings me some comfort!
