Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and having some trouble figuring out how to make a post. Do any of you know exactly how the point scale is calculated for nursing applications at National? I'm pretty sure I understand how the points are accumulated for the grades, but not the TEAS or the essay. If anyone has any info I would love to hear. I just got a denial letter for the JUly start date. I had all A-s and B+s in my classes(all first attempts) and an 82% on the TEAS. I don't know about the essay. I know someone who starts in April that had a 72% on her TEAS and a friend of mine got accepted with the same science GPA as me. So needless to say, I am super upset and confused as well. Any info you have would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Teas is worth 30% and Essay is worth 20% of your total points. If you call them, they will probably tell you what you need to do for the next cohort to be accepted (at least that's what they did for someone I know that got denied into the last cohort).

Each cohort has a different point cutoff that they accept (they only take 50 students and we had 160 applicants)depending on the grade averages of all of their applicants. From what I understand, ours was pretty high compared with some of the other cohorts.

I'm sorry to hear you were not accepted :crying2: Good luck to you next time!

Thanks for your quick response!

I know the grades are 50% the TEAS is 30% and essay 20% but I know each section has a point value they calculate as well. For instance, there were 90 points possible in the grade section. How do they calculate the points for the others????

Thanks for helping!!

Ah. Sorry, I misunderstood. Unfortunately I don't have that information. I figured that it would be 30% of 100 pts max on the TEAS, and then I have no idea on the essay. They went through it so quick at the forum that I didn't have a chance to write it down! I just remembered 50% grades, 30% TEAS, 20% essay.

I suggest you call or email the nursing dept on monday.

whew! took me all day to make it through the whole thread...

thanks to all of you for the wealth of information posted here. i am more certain now than before that national is the school for me.

i have been slowly chugging away at my dream to become a nurse since 2005. many schools, homes and circumstances later, i'm finally down to the meat and potatoes of the pre-req's and can't wait to start this journey: i've just finished nsg 322 online, am currently in a&p 1 and signed up for a&p 2 and micro with national...all the way in ontario. i was fortunate enough to meet a couple of great ladies who are as insane driven as i am and we'll be carpooling the 1.5 hour drive together for the next 6 months. i'm still trying to decide if i should take the ilr 260 or just clep out of it. does overall gpa count for anything or am i correct in understanding that it's just the stats and sciences, so a p instead of a letter grade won't be an issue?

my micro ends 8/28, while if i'm understanding correctly the deadline for august applications is 8/20? i'm not sure if i should ask at the pre-nursing forum if these 8 days will really mean a 3 month wait on submitting my application or just slip it in with the august batch and hope they don't get to my application until the grade is posted to the system. :p

can anyone tell me which teas national uses? i'm looking at study guides and want to be sure i'm buying the right one. also, does anyone know how rigid national is on the policy that it must be taken after the science courses? since i'm not applying until august, i'm thinking of taking it early (they do it over at sdsu) so that i will have time to re-take it if my scores aren't what i'm hoping for.

i'm starting to get a little nervous about paying for all this and really need to head over to the office and get my financials sorted. they just suspended the program that i was planning to use for the pre-req's (at least i got the nsg 322 and a&p 1 paid for) so i'm going to have to dip into my gi bill a little sooner than expected. the thing is, i am thoroughly confused about the new gi bill and just want to make it through this without cumbersome loans to pay back. if anyone on here is using/has used the montgomery or post 9/11 gi bill to pay for national, any input you have would be greatly appreciated.

thanks again for the awesome information you gals and guys have provided on here.

edit: p.s. sorry for the novel.

welcome Daleen,

I can only answer a few of your questions. Regarding the micro class being finished 8 days after the deadline and the teas question. From what I was told by a nursing adviser was that you may submit your application, but you will need to submit a front page with it explaining that you are finishing up a course AT national. They will most likely let you, but make sure to ask your adviser otherwise. And for the Teas, I honestly think you can take it before your A+P and micro class, because the Science portion of the Teas is all over the place, life science, earth science and random science. I had about 1 question on A+P and that was it, so I suggest you take it if you feel you are ready.
