Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Hi everyone! Got my acceptance letter in the mail and I'm so excited to be in the program with you all :D See you at Orientation!!!!:nurse:

Hi goalnurse. Sorry to hear that! I know that some people who do get accepted decide not to go so I am hopeful that you will be able to start in July! Your stats are very good! I had a 3.5 and an 85% on my TEAS... Must be getting harder to get in. I would contactNational to see what you got on your essay.

Congrats to everyone that got in! I can't believe I will be starting nursing school next month!! :D

On the one hand I'm so glad I found this discussion to hear from others applying to the nursing program at NU. On the other hand it's upsetting because I didn't get in to the July 2010 cohort. I didn't even get alternate status. My TEAS score was 88.8, and I think my overall GPA is 3.8, I did however bomb the essay part and only got a 2.5 out of 5.

I'm feeling very confused as to why I didn't get in, I thought my TEAS score and GPA were good enough. I'm also confused as to how I did so horribly on the essay. What do any of you know about how they score the essay? Or, without details can you give me a general idea of what you wrote?

I'm so bummed, and just don't get it, ugh! However, congrats to those who made it, good luck and have fun. I'm just a wee jealous.

I understand your disappointment. For a few days my head was spinning as to why I didn't get into the July cohort, but I had heard there were just a lot of applicants to consider and only so many slots open. I realized I can't take it "personal" and just need to continue waiting to see what happens in October. I decided the best thing to do is to keep reviewing my A&P and Micro education, practice nursing dosage math, and try to keep my knowledge base up. This will help once I get into the program. I tried not to focus my essay on "what a good nurse I will be", instead focusing on the personal and professional benefits nursing will provide to myself and family, along with how nursing will fulfill my goals for my life. Also, how some of my own life experiences influenced my choice of nursing as a career. Not sure how it went. I have to call about my score on the essay.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. I'll cross my fingers for you. Do you mind sharing your stats so we can get a better idea of what the cut-off was?

As far as looking toward the future, I've been looking at the CA approved programs list and compiling lists of the pre-req's I still need for any of the schools I'd be willing to commute to so I can shotgun my application to as many programs as possible. I'd suggest finding programs that use a point system and looking for ways to boost your application points while you wait to get into National's program...who knows you might get into a much less expensive program and sooner!

The cutoff for July was 83.77. I called today to find out what my essay score and total was and they told me what the cutoff was too.

Hi angbarrett,

I'm sorry you didn't get in. Have you called to see why and what you can do to increase your points for next time? Overall GPA isn't a factor, it is specifically grades in A&P (1&2 if you went to National), Micro, and Statistics (those make up 50% of your score) plus your TEAS (30%) and essay (20%). The overall GPA is just use to make sure you qualify in general to enter the program. A lot of times you just need to retake a class and reapply and you will get in. From what I understand, a few people did that from the last cohort application period and got in. Keep at it and you will get in!

i dont know if its been stated yet.. but city college is offering the same type of application as national.. for your associates tho.. but it is only a cost of $3000 total.. but they stated that there is no waitlist anymore.

I'm in community health right now we do not have clinicals in the normal sense. We have a certain amount of hours that we have to complete that make up our clinical component. These hours are fulfilled by a 3-month long group project with teachings out in the community. There are also papers and community meetings and observations that satisfy the rest of the hours. In addition there are class discussions, posts and quizzes that are due weekly. I've spent so much time researching and writing throughout this class that I am sick of it! (so I come here and write instead :p)

I'll be entering community next class. How were your groups made up? Were they assigned or do you pick them yourself? Not that I care either way, just curious (since it is an online course in a sense).

Hi Everyone,

I am about to start my application process for the nursing program with National University but I have a problem with the 6-8week rotating clinical schedule. Does anyone in the program have a sample clinical schedule? Or could anyone please let me know how their clinical rotation has been. Do you have a choice of AM or PM shifts? I have childcare/employer issues and would need help in setting up my schedule. Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi!

It's great that they do not have waiting list anymore. However, city college only accept applications on fall. :sniff:

I just got accepted for July and asked about requesting clinicals since I will be working. They said that you can put in requests, but there is no guarantee. They do try to accomodate you though. I'm not sure what the exact start times are though for the clinicals. Hopefully someone else can answer that. Good luck to you!

Clinical times are completely random. The only way to switch is to find someone in your class to switch with.

Example:

Theory = 1600-1930 Mondays

Clinical Group #1 = Tuesday & Thursday 0700-1500

Group #2 = Tuesday & Thursday 1500-2300

Group #3 = Wednesday & Friday 0700-1500

Group #4 = Friday & Saturday 1500-2300

These times are not exact and can change depending on each clinical group instructor. Each group can vary on the amount of days and hours per shift. I'd say my average clinical day was about 10 hours.
