Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

That Works for me. I will have to bring my son along though. No one to watch him. We can either meet in the middle or do RB since thats gonna be our second home anyway :) I don't mind driving anywhere...

Hey I think I can meet too...and my daughter will be there also =] Just let me know when and what Starbucks.

Specializes in Near Future: ED, Future Future: ACNP!.
I would like to suggest to you all to use the companion site that came with the text books. The practice questions there can be very helpful to study and sometimes you might see a few familiar questions on your quizzes.

The reading load involved in Health Assessment is ridiculous, and it is difficult information to retain, because it all starts blurring together.

Happy Studying!!

Harparia, you were definitely right. I'm going into week 3 of health assessment and about to drop dead. Haven't seen those "familiar questions" though. 4 days a week is a bit much, and the reading is a bit ridiculous (especially working full-time) :uhoh3:

What books are you guys using for Health Assesment? I start in November up at the LA campus but thought it would be good to just start looking over it since many of you have expressed how comprehensive the subject is. THANKS!

Jarvis, but I would wait and see if for some reason the book changes. You never know when they will do that. You should be able to look at SOAR and view books on your class schedule for upcoming classes.

Wow, going through this program with a 5 month old will be really tough. I hope she's a good sleeper and you've got lots of support at home!

It's definitely do-able but it won't be easy. For your first class it's not that bad and there isn't too much work. I've heard from other cohorts though that from your 2nd month on it is incredibly fast paced and a ton of memorization and reading! I know the first 2 weeks of this class have been absolutely insane with the amount of work we have to do and the lack of sleep. A lot of it you are basically teaching yourself through all of the readings.

For your theory class you will have a 7-10 page paper on the theorist of your choice. For some reason it took me forever to write this paper...probably because the subject is so boring. I wasn't alone either in this. For the class we're in now, we have a 2 page paper due for lecture along with our group project. However, in lab class we had to do a face-to-face interview (Health history) with a patient in a skilled nursing facility and had to write it all out APA format in paragraphs. Mine was 15 1/2 pages! We will also be doing a full head to toe inspection and have to write that up. I'm sure that will be equally as long. I honestly have no clue what the rest of the papers are going to be like. I took all my science and math pre-reqs at National and know that in every class you will always have a paper AND a group project.

If you want to start reading your Theory book, it couldn't hurt but the subject matter is soo dry. In your Transcultural Nursing book I think we only read 3 chapters. Your group project will be to pick a culture group to present to the class via PowerPoint. I would actually reccommend getting your Health Assessment book early and looking over that. We are reading 8 chapters a week for the whole month. The reading alone is the most time consuming. The book is a great resource and well written, it's just a LOT of information to cover in 1 month!

I'm sure you'll do just fine! My goal and what that same professor said to do was to set aside one whole day to not do any studying or school work and spend it only with my girls. I really value family time and it's frustrating to be physically present at home but not mentally here because I'm so intent on school work. My girls are already complaining about how much time I spend in school and doing homework outside of school. It also takes me 45 minutes (on a good day with no traffic) each way to get to RB for class. So, that's 6 hours just in driving on top of my 18 hours per week at class. I can only imagine what they will say when I'm doing 8 and 12 hour clinicals AND theory classes. At this point I'm just trying to keep my eye on the end result as I know it will benefit my family. I just hope I can graduate without losing my mind!:lol2:

ALIinSD- thank you so much for all of this info! It is very helpful to help plan! I hope you keep an eye on this thread as you could be/ are a great resource for those of us in the next cohort :) I'm going to try and work part time while doing the program (I'm in cohort 24). I don't have any kids, so I guess I'm lucky that I'll only have to balance my time between work and school but this still sounds daunting.

For the first class (Theory), did you only meet once a week? I got the impression from somewhere (can't remember now) that this class was only once a week, but it seems crazy that some classes meet once a week and others meet 4 times a week. Also, is it true that you don't start clinicals until Fundamentals?

Lastly- where do you live where it takes you 45 minutes to get to class? I'm down in Mission Valley and am hoping I can miss traffic and make it in about 20-25. Still a lot of driving. Thanks again for all your insight!

For the others in cohort 24- I definitely look forward to meeting all of you. Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet you this weekend as I'm moving. Happy Monday all!

So I guess it's gonna be Happymommy, Tutubalu and me on Satruday... I'm very excited to meet you guys! So are you guys ok with around 11? I live in PQ... just let me know which Sbux you want to meet!

I'm excited to meet you guys too! I will be dropping my kids at my mom's in Clairemont, so I can meet you anywhere that works for you guys. There is a Starbucks on Rancho Bernardo Rd and W Bernardo Dr that is close to NU (I think) if that sounds good to you. I'm not sure if that is convenient for everyone, or if something further south would be better???

Let's do Mira Mesa?! They have a nice outside area...

Hello!!!

I am new to this website but I am in love with it!!

I love how the community is so helpful and how people exchange sufficient information with each other

Anyway! I am really interested in National University and I am thinking to take the pre reqs next spring (since i am currently finishing up my BA in psychology from cal state fullerton and I want to apply to their second degree B.S.N. program)

But the thing is, I am VERY confused. Since I am new to the scene I am scared of 'making all the wrong choices' I am single, young and i THINK i can succeed at NU's fast paced and intense courses. Everytime i talk to the advisor at NU she doesn't seem interested in my goals AT ALL. I feel like her goal is to just get money out of me and the rest doesnt really matter. I understand that it is a private college and money is a big issue, but this second degree program would be ideal for me, so am not really concerned about her attitude toward my goals but it still just makes me kinda uncomfortable.

I really want to know your peoples' experiences at NU; the pre reqs, the TEAS test, the second degree BSN program, the professors, the environment. I would greatly appreciate and be grateful :bow:for all the honest feedback!

I seriously need some guidance in this matter, so please share!!!!

thank you so much:)
