Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Hi everyone! I'm attending NU the end of October starting off with online classes.. Pre reqs for the bsn program. I have a long way to go. My first online class will be eng 100 online. Can you give me your experiences and advice please. Anything will help. I'm new at this and scared. But also excited at the same time. Lol. Thanks in advance. :)

Hi annahleah- I only took A&P II and Micro at National, so I can only speak to those specific classes. However, I would recommend looking at the San Diego Community College district to take some of your prereqs. They're MUCH cheaper and many of them are offered in an accelerated format (8 weeks). Doing this allowed me to do all my prereqs in under 2 years, where these could have easily taken double that (since I work full time).

Good luck- if you stay focused, the prereqs will fly by and you'll be applying in no time!

Rachel - sorry I was on vaca and didn't get to reply to your post...

Tutubalu - I'm getting pretty nervous too :) I only have to choose my uniform and thats it! I'm gonna start reading the books this weekend :)

Happymommy - I was thinking maybe meet up at a starbucks for an hour or so just to get to know each other. Hopefully some of us end up with the same class schedule so we can stick together on the group work stuff... I work every day until 5:30pm so either after work or anytime on a saturday? Lets see what works best for all of us that want to meet.

I know this is the board for National SD but I cant seem to find anyone who applyed for the Los Angeles Location. I was just accepted into their oct. start cohort. Is anyone planning on working. It seems like most people say on this thread that its too hard. Im still trying to decide what to do.

moonshadow815- I was also accepted to NU's RN Program at the LA Campus! I couldn't find anyone on this until now- Congrats!! If I can handle it, I'm planning on working part time, no more than 18 hours/week :)

ISBN:1433805618...I scribbled the title to this one so I'm not totally sure...but its the 6th edition

The last book is the APA format book which you will use when writing all of your papers for the program. I'm currentlly in my second month (Cohort 23) and if anyone is looking to buy the Nursing Theory and Transcultural Nursing books, I'm definitely going to sell mine. Just send me a private message.

Tutubalu - I'm getting pretty nervous too :) I only have to choose my uniform and thats it! I'm gonna start reading the books this weekend :)

Don't worry about picking out your uniforms as you will be able to try them on at the orientation. They have all of the styles and sizes there for you. I chose the Unisex scrub top and the Zip front one and so far everyone I've talked with likes the zip-front one. The one with the buttons in the back looks cute but it's kind of a pain to get on and off I've heard.

I was totally nervous too when I started, but you'll get used to it pretty quickly. =) You don't really have a choice as it goes so fast. Right now we are in Health Assessment (I'm in cohort 23) and it is crazy!! We have already gone through 16 chapters in 2 weeks and are having a midterm, paper, and lecture on 4 more chapters on Monday! Oh, and we just had a quiz on Friday night! So, it's tons of reading and lots of work. This is on top of the lab work we have to do and the group project. WE've already learned our vital signs (temp., pulse, respirations, and blood pressure) and had them signed off which was pretty cool!:)

I'm not telling you this to scare you, but simply to let you know that this program is grueling and very very fast paced. I am a mom of 2 (5 year old and 3 1/2 year old girls) and it has been really rough these last few weeks trying to balance in-school time, study time, and family time. I have completely thrown the idea of 'me time' out the window! There are a few people in our cohort who are working and I know they're not having an easy time either. We go to school 4 nights a week from 4:30-9 pm. When I started the program one of the instructors said to me that taking this program is like basically saying goodbye to your family for 22 months. I thought she was exaggerating when she said that but I'm beginning to find out that she wasn't joking.:eek:

Enjoy all of your free time and family now as your life will drastically change in October! Well, the first class wasn't too bad. Oh, and CONGRATS to all of you who got in!! It will be exciting to see some newbies so we won't be the newest kids on campus. :lol2:

Oye I don't know if I'm ready to say" bye" to my 5 month old. I guess I will just use her nap time and her bed time to really get stuff done! Would you recommend doing reading before hand? How long are the papers also?

Wow, going through this program with a 5 month old will be really tough. I hope she's a good sleeper and you've got lots of support at home!

It's definitely do-able but it won't be easy. For your first class it's not that bad and there isn't too much work. I've heard from other cohorts though that from your 2nd month on it is incredibly fast paced and a ton of memorization and reading! I know the first 2 weeks of this class have been absolutely insane with the amount of work we have to do and the lack of sleep. A lot of it you are basically teaching yourself through all of the readings.

For your theory class you will have a 7-10 page paper on the theorist of your choice. For some reason it took me forever to write this paper...probably because the subject is so boring. I wasn't alone either in this. For the class we're in now, we have a 2 page paper due for lecture along with our group project. However, in lab class we had to do a face-to-face interview (Health history) with a patient in a skilled nursing facility and had to write it all out APA format in paragraphs. Mine was 15 1/2 pages! We will also be doing a full head to toe inspection and have to write that up. I'm sure that will be equally as long. I honestly have no clue what the rest of the papers are going to be like. I took all my science and math pre-reqs at National and know that in every class you will always have a paper AND a group project.

If you want to start reading your Theory book, it couldn't hurt but the subject matter is soo dry. In your Transcultural Nursing book I think we only read 3 chapters. Your group project will be to pick a culture group to present to the class via PowerPoint. I would actually reccommend getting your Health Assessment book early and looking over that. We are reading 8 chapters a week for the whole month. The reading alone is the most time consuming. The book is a great resource and well written, it's just a LOT of information to cover in 1 month!

I'm sure you'll do just fine! My goal and what that same professor said to do was to set aside one whole day to not do any studying or school work and spend it only with my girls. I really value family time and it's frustrating to be physically present at home but not mentally here because I'm so intent on school work. My girls are already complaining about how much time I spend in school and doing homework outside of school. It also takes me 45 minutes (on a good day with no traffic) each way to get to RB for class. So, that's 6 hours just in driving on top of my 18 hours per week at class. I can only imagine what they will say when I'm doing 8 and 12 hour clinicals AND theory classes. :confused: At this point I'm just trying to keep my eye on the end result as I know it will benefit my family. I just hope I can graduate without losing my mind!:lol2:

Thanks for all of the good information =] I'm sure I will figure out family time plus school time but it just seems kind of scary at the moment =[ All of my family is in San Diego and my husband is military but shore based so hopefully that will be enough to help out. I still can't grasp a 15 page paper haha I haven't written a paper in a while. Other than the work load and it being time consuming, are the classes interesting and do you like your cohort? Also, how far head do they give you your schedule?

My daughter has to be at a birthday party Saturday afternoon, but Saturday morning will work for me. Maybe around 10:30 or 11:00. Will that work for everyone else too? Where should we meet?
