Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

h0n3ybee,

Do you still the pics you took? If you do, would you mind sending them too me, so I can use them reference?

Thanks!

For those who already got accepted to the nursing program:

After applying to the nursing program, with all the pre-nursing classes done, what is the longest wait until you hear from the nursing admissions. Also, what is the longest wait until you start the program.

Any information will be very much appreciated. Thank you!

JasonC,

Sorry I no longer have the pictures. Good Luck on the final.

After applying to the program it took me nine months to reply. They have changed the nursing admissions person(who is now Jill) and hired more assistants so i do not know if the time to find out is getting shorter. I started the program July 2007.

I applied to National University May 2007 and heard back mid August 2007 and started January 2008. There getting alot better with replying back. If anything, I would email them and follow-up.

I also had Fullerton...what a loon and what a completely SELF-TAUGHT class! He gave me a B+ for all 4 classes, Ap1+lab/Ap2+lab. The man is a dinosaur and a horrible teacher. I'm just glad to have made it out of there alive. All I can say that I took away from that experience was that I finished the prereq's fast and was happy to get it over with. Micro, on the other hand with Professor Huda Makhluf was AWESOME!! A, and A- for those.

I just got accepted to the General BSN program at NU, my orientation is Feb 13, My Cohort is 18, I start Apr'09

I submitted my nursing application in Aug'08, Right before the appl. req. changed in Sept. I am not sure what all the changes were, but I know it involves the TEAS testing, which all nursing schools have to administer now. I am not completely sure what to expect, I have friends in the Southwestern CC program for an ADN, and acquaintances in the program at NU.

I just got the orientation packet of what I need for the NU program yesterday for the Feb orientation, let me tell you it is more than I thought. The obvious, healthcare providers CPR/AED, , a hippa agreement, but I never expected to need to have health insurance (which I don't and have no idea how I can afford). I am working on it right now, I found blue shield of cal. which offers real bad insurance for $50.00 a month, I am going to apply and see how I can work that into my bills. Also there is a physical and you need an mmr titer, and vericella vaccination or titer, plus all the other regular vaccinations, and a flu shot...plus a lot more other "requirements".

Everything else is fine, but the needing health insurance threw me for a loop, in the swc program on orientation they provided the lifescan backround checks there if you paid for it, and a blanket malpractice insurance, the hippa agreement there to sign in person, ect. It was nice to have everything available in one location for all of us together. I guess this will just be a bit more challenging, but doable. Any one in the program that cares to tell about it, I have read all the other posts, guess I just want to know everything there is to know to not go in blind you know.

Oh yeah..also..where can I get the list of books that need to be purchased???? I want to start to practice on the dose calculations b/c I have no idea how to do those and I am bad at math...Thanks....

turquies,

i don't know if you should trust that nu won't change the books on you before you get into the program in april, but here are the ones we used for the last semester.

the first class is assessment:

physical examination etc (w/cd author:jarvis edition:5th 1416032436

the book list will say that the study guide and a taber's is required for this class, but you don't use either. there were also some recommended titles that you won't have time to read.

for your second class you will need:

fundamentals of nursing 0-323-04828-5

you will also need the study guide that accompanies this book.

calculating drug dosages (box)(w/cd & student wkbk) 0803615329

pharmacology: a nursing process approach (w/cd author:kee edition:6th

as for the insurance, you can set it up and have the policy become effective at later date. the policy needs to be active before you go to your first clinical site, but the school may require it earlier than that.

if you are having trouble with math i recommend this book:

http://product.half.ebay.com/clinical-calculations-made-easy_w0qqprz30216133qqtgzinfo

it is not part of the curriculum at all, but it is an excellent book and it teaches an easy way to do dosage calculations. as an added bonus it is only about $4.00 on half.com.

as a fyi, you get an extremely cruddy stethoscope in the equipment bag nu issues you; you may want to buy a better one.

good luck with everything and congrats!

Wow thank you for all the wonderful information. I know how often schools change their books on you...but it never hurts to have these books, and if I find them cheap it would be great to get a head start on all the reading you know? The dosage book is one I will most definitely be purchasing. Besides a lot of times I buy old editions and they work just as well as the new ones save for a small page difference, I am a single mom and that's how I make it through most my classes..hopefully nursing won't be too different! :)

You could probably get away with buying one edition back on most of these, up until med-surg, but it depends on the instructor.

Also if you have time I highly recommend reading Fluids and Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy! while you have the chance. This is a very complex subject that is covered very quickly.

Thanks again for your help...I love it! Already us future nurses are sticking together...I will most certainly heed your advice!

Hello Everyone! I applied in August 2008 and exactly 4 months to the dot I got my acceptance package, yay! I start in the July 2009 cohort. Any fellow July national nursing students out there?? To anyone who has done the orientation, is it an all day thing? And what things do you do there and what are you given? Also, how does the uniform fitting work...i hear they are really expensive! Thank you!:redbeathe
