National University San Diego

Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

I was wondering if we were a morning or evening cohort also. My friend started in October and I'm pretty sure she's morning so I think that would mean we would be evening. I'd rather do a morning, but I just want to start so whatever is okay with me. I did start the immunizations already, but I just got the blood work done, then I have to meet with the doctor to find out what shots I need. I hear we'll need a lot more things, like CPR, I wonder when we'll get the packet that tells us about that.

I know. I am also OK with either evening or morning, just want to start as soon as possible. I have not started my blood work yet. I have to get on it....

I start in April, My orientation in in February off the top of my head this is what you will need...I am super busy putting is all together as of late...

-Up to date CPR/AED child, infant, adult for healthcare providers card

-Immunizations all up to date including a recent ppv, and Influenza shot within the last year/season. Also you will have to show proof of +/- titers for certain things like varicella for one..can't remember the rest in place of proof of immunization...

-Proof of Health Insurance that at least covers Emergency Room visits, and anti hiv dugs, ect. because of clinical I am assuming

-proof of

-A couple of filled out and signed papers from the packet you will print out (# of pages depends on what you specifically need, they make you print it out..to save paper?)

-Hippa form signed

-Nursing physical (do it whan you get your flu shot ect.

-a background check must be completed by orientation (they provide all the directions on how and from who to get one..you can only use who they say)

-Go over the uniform forms..they provide a certain amount but if you want more that two sets..you buy..PRETTY PRICEY in my opinion...(i.e. $54.00 for a scrub top)

That is all that is coming to mind for now I think...I guess you will know when you get your packet, just thought I would give a heads up so you are not overwhelmed with the long list they give you! Any info is useful as far as I am concerned!

Hey July Starters...(Future classmates! :roll) Yeah I just had my physical and got a tetorifice shot, flu shot, TB/PPD skin test, and lots and lots of blood drawn for all the specific titers. Let's just say i was a little sore for a couple days! I got all my immunizations/titers filled out so that's all set to go...(I just wanted to get it over with!) Way back before I applied to the program the advisor I spoke to mentioned that January/July cohorts are Day classes and April/October cohorts were night. Who knows if that is true... Anyways, I can't wait to start and I'm really excited to see you all on here!

Hi Tuquies! I just thought I would say hello, so far you are the only other person I know starting in April. I'm getting sooo excited but also nervous. Do you know if we are a day or night cohort? So far it seems that everyone has said its a day cohort, but I have seen one or two saying its night. Talk to you soon.

Well nice to meet you, my name is actually Samantha. Well I talked to the school and they said that they think the classes are at night, but the clinical hours can be whenever..so I am not so sure either, I guess we will find out on the 13th of next month! Have you done your background check yet? If so was it hard to complete, like where you had to go and all.

Hey Samantha, I'm Danielle, nice to meet you haha. Actually I JUST got my packet yesterday so no I haven't done anything yet. I do have a doctor appointment on Tuesday to get whatever shots I still need. I hope the classes aren't at night! I have a kid in preschool so it be great if they were in the day. But then again, WE'RE IN NURSING SCHOOL! :roll so who cares.

Haha, I know right! My Daughter is a year and 2 months old. I think that in some way night classes might work though, because child care would be much cheaper if I am there during the day and her dad at night, only the transition hours need to be covered. Besides I was looking at the schedule and the theory classes are not very long..only about 4-5 hours. So it is not bad, however clinical is another story, it is like a day at work. The packet is a bit overwhelming, at least for me, I am working on getting health insurance as we speak, it's harder than I thought. isn't as expensive as I thought though! Are you boning up in your medical terminology and stuff? I forgot it, it has been overa year since I have been in school and over two years since I took things like anatomy. I am a little concerned. I heard NU is preety intense which makes sence since we are doing BSN program in 2 1/2 years and my frined at SWC nursing program is just getting an ADN and it is going to take her 2 years! Sorry I wrote a novel!

Oh, I have a daughter too she is going to be 3 in March, it has gone by so fast! But I just realized that today I could put her in part-time preschool if we do night classes, and that saves some money! I already have health insurance but need to look into malpractice...I need to freshen up on medical terminology too. My husband is starting his A&P class in 2 weeks so I could probably review with him. And I don't consider that a novel, haha, it would be great sorta knowing someone before classes start! Sounds like we are in the same boat with kids and stuff. Actually, sounds like a lot of people on here have kids. I did talk to someone I knew briefly about National today (she got her Masters in Psych I believe) . She said yeah its intense but its also a littler easier to focus because its one class at a time, and the 2 years will just fly by! Are you going to be working while in school?

Wow so your husband is following the same path that is great! is really easy to get and it is only about $29/year for nursing students! The links they gave in the orientation email are what I used. Your right knowing someone does make it much easier, I am a firm believer in study groups so there you go. Sometimes one person is a better note taker while someone else explains everything better, if anything it ensures that I will actually sit down and study since others are counting on me. Thank goodness that no, I do not have to work while in school. I understand that the majority of people do however, and wow kids and work..I really can't imagine. It has been done though so I know it's possible, times will be tight, but I would rather that and be sure that I will succeed in school. Where did you do all of your nursing prereq's? I went to SWC for most and Grossmont for Stat's and Intro to Theater for my elective req.

Hey guys.... Wow, so it's nice to know I'm not the only one with the 2 year old kid and has to quit her job to go to school full time.... Only my husband's salary alone won't support us three. So, what do I do? :banghead:

I took all my prereqs/general ed through mostly mesa, and a couple at san diego state. ive been debating back and forth whether to get a job before school started. we all know that kids are full-time jobs on their own :D haha. but financially speaking, like you gnomik79, we cant just live off my husbands salary. i mean we have been but we want to move out of el cajon and closer to family and my daughters preschool, and nursing school as well...which will cost even MORE money. i just got a job at Sharp hospital (literally, they called me last night). its part-time, and hopefully it will be managable with school. i did know someone who went national, worked, and was married with an 8 year old kid, and she did it just fine. but yes, i think its a little harder with our little ones!

so i guess if money is a problem, i just have two words: STUDENT LOANS. lol. like school isn't expensive enough but just remember we are going to school for one of the most needed jobs out there! it'll eventually get paid back.
