National University San Diego-April 2012 Cohort

Published

Hi,

Anyone else on these threads applying to NU's April 2012 cohort in San Diego? How do you feel about TEAS V? I wish you all luck . I'm not so sure I'll get in :uhoh21:. I scored a 70.6% (slightly higher than National's average across the US and for our specific program), and I'm a fairly decent writer, but I have a C in A/P 1 (class and lab) and B's in A/P 2 (class and lab) and Micro (class and lab). I earned an A- in Biostats and have never reattempted any classes. I'm thinking of retaking the TEAS again and getting the ATI study guide this time around to try to bump my score up to the 80's.

Would love to hear from anyone else.

It does seem confusing to me too lol. I will root for you and I will post here when I hear anything. I think I did ok on the essay but I am stumped because who knows what they are looking for huh? I do not know about grammar but I would assume that they would take points off for that. It just seems really hit or miss to me. Im worried I didn't do good enough on my TEAS. I didn't really study for it because I was taking organic chem, and well that class was consuming all of my time because I really wanted an a (which I got) in case I apply to SDSU. At least this forum is a distraction until we hear anything!! lol

I was under the impression that you calculate your GPA using unit points. For example, each core lecture class is worth a total of 4.5 points. You take your grade point for each lecture (ie. “A”= 4 points, "B"=3 points, etc.) and multiply the grade received by 4.5. So if you earned an “A” in A/P 1 Lecture, you would receive a total of 18 points. For each Lab course, you would take your grade and multiply it by 1.5 (so if you received a “B” in A/P 1 Lab, you would take 3 and multiply this by 1.5 for a total of 4.5). You do this for each set of courses (except for Biostats since there isn’t a lab with this course), add up your points, and divide the total by 90 (total points possible), and then multiply by 30 for your total point score.

I really hope the cut off is right at 80% for this cohort...If I score well on my essay I just might barely make it. I wonder how the TEAS average affected the cut off since this was the toughest version released...

Just curious, do you remember where you read that people were being accepted with total scores in the 70's for cohort 29? I'd love to read some replies just to feel reassured. :)

I forgot where I read it :/. But the essay is a big deal. Each whole point is 4 points ! So the difference of an essay scored 3/5 vs 4/5 is huge !So someone who got a 3 and did well on teas and say if you got a 4 ... Well you could be on the same page with someone who got a 80 on their teas. The hardest thing is not knowing exactly what they grade on !!!! We should be hearing any day now...any day!!!

This is exactly how I was told to do it too. Except minuses and pluses are worth differently. I just used a online gpa calculator for that :) You can tell I'm not a big math person .. Haha but surprisingly I did the best in math on the teas amongst the other sections. Ah !!

I wonder if anyone's ever scored a 5/5 on the essay? Or even 4.5? (for example, if one instructor gave you a 4 and the other gave you a 5, would it average out to 4.5?) I agree that it's very frustrating not knowing what they grade you on! "You-know-who" said that those who don't get accepted will have another chance to reapply before the April deadline (see email below):

"...if you are in the current filing period, you will not know your admissions results until the end of January. You will be able to reapply if needed for the April deadline."

So I guess there's some comfort in knowing that if I don't make it in I can re-apply without having to wait almost a full year. :) Either way I guess we'll all know where we stand in 2 days. I heard we had about 200 other applicants for this cohort which is on the higher-side. Have you heard anything about this? The wait is maddening!!:banghead:

JakeH , Yes a 4.5 is possible. They have two people read it then average them. Each half point increase is equivalent to a two point increase. Yes, I agree it's great we don't have to wait a full year but all the teas testing was sup to be done in Nov .. So traditionally we would have had time to reapply for the July cohort by jan 10th. But they were running a bit behind and decided to push back test dates so unfortunately , we can't apply till April ( instead of the jan one that just passed !). Usually they have it where if you don't get in , the next application period is within days / weeks. 200 applied , but I heard only about 180 decided to go through with the application process of taking the teas .. Etc. Thats what I heard but who knows!!!!! I think we will hear next week sometime. .. Ahh!!!

Wow, 200? That is a little discouraging! lol. This is my first time applying but it feels better knowing we can reapply for the April deadline. That would be cohort 31 right? Did you email her personally Jake? I have not tried to call or email. How consuming.

I did email Ms. M personally (way back in December after taking the test), but only to inquire about the TEAS fees and asking about when I could re-apply if I didn't make it in this go-through (I read that the TEAS testing fees were covered by National if it was your first attempt, and the email confirming our test dates and times also stated that "If this is your second time taking the TEAS at NU, you will have to pay a $35 fee" so I was a little confused.) "M" replied back and said for a time NU was covering the TEAS fees as part of a study, but that is now over and they charge fees for every test-taker. In that same email she also mentioned the direct quote I took from what she wrote in the post above (so it's legit!) :)

From trolling these posts I've learned that an email typically goes out the night before the acceptance/denail emails/letters are sent out, so my guess is we'll hear something by tomorrow and will know for sure by Tuesday. I'm driving my spouse up the wall with checking the website every 5 minutes, but I can't help it! I told him I'd either come home with a bottle of wine (if I get denied) or a bottle of champagne (if I get in!) so either way I'll be set. :)

Yes I believe it is for cohort 31.

It would be cohort 32 for the one we apply in April if we don't get into this cohort. We missed 31 ( July cohort , Jan 10 deadline ) due to the teas date being pushed back or at least that's what I heard !
