National University San Diego-April 2012 Cohort

Published

Hi,

Anyone else on these threads applying to NU's April 2012 cohort in San Diego? How do you feel about TEAS V? I wish you all luck . I'm not so sure I'll get in :uhoh21:. I scored a 70.6% (slightly higher than National's average across the US and for our specific program), and I'm a fairly decent writer, but I have a C in A/P 1 (class and lab) and B's in A/P 2 (class and lab) and Micro (class and lab). I earned an A- in Biostats and have never reattempted any classes. I'm thinking of retaking the TEAS again and getting the ATI study guide this time around to try to bump my score up to the 80's.

Would love to hear from anyone else.

You know what is stressing me out the most ? The teas for April cohort was sup to be in Nov but it was delayed to dec. ( I called and usually they would have had results by jan , but it was delayed this time). Technically we would have had time to apply again by Jan 10th for julyCohort if we don't get in but now we will have to apply April 10th for October cohort. I just want to start already !!!

Hi Lotsapasta: I don't think you'll have any issues getting in with your high GPA and points prior to the essay. I calculated that I have a 62.75 prior to my essay :(, so I figured I'll have to score an 86.25% (or point score of 17.25) on my essay to have a 80% total score. I just wish they'd tell us already-sooo sick of waiting! I still think I won't get in though....just a sinking feeling (I hope I am wrong, though!) I've heard so many different things about what the total score cut offs are...I did hear that with this TEAS version being the toughest yet the average total scores dropped 10% across the nation and for our particular BSN program, but I'm not too sure how this translates to our cohort. I appreciate your support either way-I hope you get in too! I agree that it's not ideal that we have to wait almost an entire year to re-test for those who don't get accepted, but at least the application cycle is within the same year (trying to be really optimisitc at this point, lol!) Best of luck to you and to anyone else reading this!

Thanks JakeH !!! You have 3 chances , don't give up hope. We all want to get in first try but life just dosnt work that way for everyone I suppose !! The Teas was wayyyy harder than expected. The reading a bit tricky ( umm snowblowers anyone ??!!) , science had crazy Chem questions for which I was not prepared for and for which ATI study guide did not help ... I was disappointed with my score to say the least. I really think I'm near the edge of getting in, alternate , or not. The essay is a big deal ... Every half point increase counts as 2 pts. You could have done well on essay. Although I felt like I struggled on essay ... It was a tough question !!! And I felt like I jabbered too much off topic now looking back. Don't give up yet !!!!! We really are up against the people we applied with ... That is the one thing we don't know. My status on the nu portal still says " submitted"... Is that what everyone else says I wonder ??

Hey Pasta and welcome! I am pretty sure I calculated my points correctly but who knows, I am not the greatest in math. That is what killed me on my TEAS! lol. I agree with you on the snow blowers!! So crazy. The only thing that helped me was that I took organic chemistry at City College in case I decide I want to apply to SDSU too. Taking that class was a life saver when it came to the chemistry questions. My status still reads submitted in the portal too. I was wondering why it was taking so long but thanks for the info. I am enrolled in classes at Mesa and if by some slim chance I get in I would hope to find out sooner rather than later so I can drop these classes! Lol. Again, best of luck to all of you.

Am I using the right worksheet to calculate my points? It was given to me by my advisor. So attempt points is says to divide your total attempt points by 21 and multiply by 20 (%weight). For science base points, Science Base GPA X 10 and then divide by 28 and multiply by 30 (% weight). For TEAS points, (TEAS points/100)(30). Add those up and of course you'd have to factor in essay but that would be pre-essay points. Essay score it says (Essay points/5)(20)

Hello everyone!

I guess we're all waiting for some kind of news from National eh? Well, I have received no news myself. A couple of people I took the TEAS V with have heard nothing either.

I was told to just take your actual divided by the max. So say you got 3.5. Take 3.5/4 then multiply by what it's worth so for grades it's 30 percent. The essay makes a big difference !!!! Seems like most people are in high 60's and 70s pre essay. Essay is worth max 20 points. A 3/5 is worth 12....3.5 /4 is worth 14 etc. I could be wrong !!!!

Welcome Greenlatern25!!! Yup were all still waiting. I'mAssuming sometime next week. ? How did you do on the Teas??

Hey Lotsapasta!

I got a 77% on the TEAS V along with a 3.2 GPA, which I feel are borderline scores. I took the TEAS IV and got an 84% at SDSU so I was bummed when my score dropped. I've been checking my email and SOAR Portal everyday and no news but any day now right? :)

Thanks pasta. That's pretty much what I said and how I did it so I am still at 79. Wow this is nerve-wracking huh?

You guys know how you did on the essay?

That's before factoring essay points greenlantern. Good luck to you too and welcome to the forum.

Thanks! How did you guys calculate the "number of attempts" points? I probably need a walkthrough with the Point System calculations..
