National University BSN April 2014 Cohort

Published

Hi everyone!

I just recently applied to nursing cohort 38 starting next April in San Diego. I'm currently waiting for my teas and essay date. I'm so anxious to find out if I've been accepted or not but I've been told we probably won't find out until January or February! Is there anyone who is in the same boat as me? Hope to receive some replies on here! :)

Hi Everyone,

Hopeful to hear something next week. Keep your fingers crossed. Who wrote the best essay of their life? Who bombed the TEAS? Who has the highest GPA? Who really, really wants this? Who has not decided if they want this? Who knows the color of our scrubs? Who can guess where the first clinical rotation will be located? Who lives close to Rancho Bernardo? Who is having the military back them financially? Who is biting their nails? Who is on the edge of their seat? Who keeps having dreams of "Accepted" in their student portal like me? Who knows the minimum score of Cohort 37? Who can name three first names of their classmates that are sure to get accepted? So many questions- - - -we will have all of the answers soon!

Good luck to all. :)

i heard the passing rate for the program was increased to 80%? other than that they use ATI as additional for the final exam per course so if you fail one, you fail the course? Is this true? one of the RNs i work with told me her daughter's friend failed a couple of times (different courses) so she's out of the program....:-(

Now this is scaring the crap out of me

lyfhckr, did you read about pass the class/fail the ATI test = fail the course from another thread? Because I remember reading that too.

How do you pass the class and fail the ATI? I sense a disconnect here.

I just checked the portal and nothing yet. It still says "Submitted". I imagine we will have to wait till Tuesday of next week. The application period has to close for the current term on the 17th, Friday. Then Monday is MLK day and the school should be closed. So therefore we may have to wait until Tuesday or later for our "Accepted" status.

Has anyone contacted the Nursing Office lately regarding the date?

Hi Dustin,

I recall hearing somewhere that they used to allow for deferment but were looking to eliminating that in the future. Not sure if it was at NU though, but I think it was. You shouldn't worry too much about it since your academics are so high. You may end up with several acceptance letters.

Good Luck.

How do you pass the class and fail the ATI? I sense a disconnect here.

I read that the class is graded normally through National and then at the end of each class, like Med Surg 1 &2, there's an ATI administered test that you must pass, weighted more than the class grade that ultimately determines if you "pass." I just read it from an angry National nursing student from 2011(?) I believe. And from my friend who's currently in the program, she said that notification for accepted will be closer to beginning to mid February since it gets pushed back a week or so. I still check everyday, just to make sure.

I haven't read that thread yet but the news came from my coworker. Maybe it's the same person who wrote on that thread, i don't know but yeah her daughter's friend is out of the program, not sure if she got kicked out or she withdrew herself...sad...anyway if i don't get in the July cohort i might go with NU's Clinical Laboratory Science program which i believe i can start any month as long as available.

@Tahiti

not assuming that im getting in the program. Im just outweighing possibilities if i do get in, hopefully! ahah. It would be awesome if they still have the deferment because that is what they mentioned in the nursing forum prior to applying. I think defering, for me at least, would be better because i still owe a large balance on tuition, and if we do find out soon and feb at the latest ... it wouldnt be enough time for applying for med cap loans with banks and such bleeeeeeh. buuuuut hopefully we find out sometime this week because last week was the mid january timeframe.

Also I dont know why they are even implementing ATI tests, other campuses such as SDSU had gotten rid of it because of so many problems encountered with the program otself. It was very faulty and ATI was not designed for nursing school. they are for profit and does not coincide with nursing at all. Even using them for the teas test is a long stretch to be even implemented. Many of my friends from sdsu's nursing program got reimbursed for using the ati program and did not use it for h rest of the nursing program.

Pearson and Mcgraw Hill are so much better, as well as many other programs.

When I studied for the TEAS I used McGraw-Hill and ATI. As well as tons of random websites. The way the ATI book is laid out really straight forward, but was mostly facts, I got my understanding and reinforcing from other sources. But I have also heard about the for-profit basis around ATI and nursing programs. I guess we'll see if we get accepted!!! I hope we hear sooner rather than later. Every time I get an email my heart skips a beat.

Hi everyone!! I applied for the April Cohort as well and I am on pins and needles waiting to find out!! Good luck to y'all!
