Hi everyone!
I just recently applied to nursing cohort 38 starting next April in San Diego. I'm currently waiting for my teas and essay date. I'm so anxious to find out if I've been accepted or not but I've been told we probably won't find out until January or February! Is there anyone who is in the same boat as me? Hope to receive some replies on here! :)

Hi SDCaligirl! I just applied to NU for the same cohort! Yay! Did you take all of your prereqs at National?
Hi Jujubees! Yes, I took all of my prereqs at National. How about you? Have you heard anything about the program regarding the average scores to get accepted? Also, have you taken the TEAS yet? I'm so nervous about the essay portion!
I took all of them except Micro at NU. The pace was definitely something to get used to, I'm glad I took Anatomy and Physiology before starting their nursing program. Right now I'm doing the last online classes they require other than the nursing classes. At the pre-nursing forum, he said the most recent minimum scores to get into the program have been 82.85, 82.97, 82.89, 83.35, and most recently, 82.6 or so but it could get lower if they allowed in any more alternates. And he said the minimum TEAS is usually around 78-85%. Did you go to the most recent nursing forum? I took the TEAS at Palomar college so that I won't have to do both the TEAS and the essay in the same day. The TEAS took long enough, it felt like I was testing all day long. I'm nervous about the essay too, I haven't done an on the spot essay in years!
I thought I replied but I guess it didn't post. Anyway, thanks for the info! I took the TEAS at SDSU and only scored a 78%. My advisor told me that's a competitive score with a high GPA, but I'm definitely going to retake it at National to try and score in the 80's. He also said that this is the most competitive cohort because most people apply from other schools during the fall time. I attended the nursing forum in January and they told us that the last cut off score was 83. Do you know how to calculate your points? Also, how did you score on your TEAS if you don't mind me asking? I hope we both get accepted!! :)
I think it's so great that they let you retake the TEAS if you want to improve your points, nice thing you took it at SDSU so you can have a second shot! I have my points all calculated, thanks for asking. Last step: I just have to not screw up my essay! I got a 91% on the TEAS so I'm thinking I'll just take that score. Thanks I hope so too! It's the only school I'm applying to so I've got all my eggs in one basket :)

Hello,
I also applied for the San Diego, cohort 38 with a start of April 2014. I am also very nervous and anxious. I spoke with the nursing depatment and they said they are going to start scheduling TEAS / Exam dates starting the week og Nov. 11. I recently took the TEAS at Cal State San Marocs and got a 68%. I was very upset about my score so I scheduled another TEAS Exam at Cal State for Nov. 9. What are your guys grades like?
What did you guys use to study for the TEAS test?
Here is how you calculate your score.
Total 100points possible: # Attempts - 20 points, GPA- 30 points, TEAS- 30 points, Essay- 20 points
Number of attempts to achieve C or higher in each pre-requisite(A&P1, A&P1 lab, A&P2, A&P2 lab, Micro, Micro lab and Bio Statsfor a total of 21 points possible) 1 attempt is 3 points, 2 is 2 points, 3 is 1point, 4 or more is 0 points = Your points divided by 21 points and multipliedby 20
GPA = Your pre-requisite GPA divided by 4.0 mulitplied by 30
TEAS = Your TEAS score divided by 100 multiplied by 30. Note that yourfirst attempt with NU is free, so even if you have already taken it you mightwant to take it again as, iirc, they will take the highest of your scores.
Proctored essay is written the day of the TEAS. If you have alreadytaken the TEAS and do not wish to retake it, they will schedule you to take itlater on the same day others are taking the TEAS. The essay is graded out of 5points each by two staff members. At the information session they stated thatthe essay is graded on a holistic scale (how well did you answer the question, grammar, spelling, etc.). I'm not sure they automatically share your essayscore with you, but I remember them saying that you could request your pointsworksheet after the fact.
Great job on the TEAS Jujubees! That's an awesome score! The science portion is what killed my score... but at least now I know what I need to brush up on for the next time I take it.
Hi jennaready86! Thanks for the reply and info! Like Jujubees mentioned, I'm really glad we are able to take the TEAS multiple times outside of National and submit our highest score. At least you know where your weaknesses are and if you focus on those, I'm sure you'll do much better the next time you take it! :) Also, I actually talked to a student who got accepted into National's program with a 4.0 GPA and a 67% on her TEAS! So as long as you have strong scores in other areas (essay and GPA), you should be okay. However, my advisor recommends aiming for a score between 80-90% on the TEAS.
My current science GPA including biomedical statistics is 3.71. Microbiology is what killed my GPA, but hopefully it'll be good enough for the program. How about yours?
Also, for the TEAS I'm using the ATI study manual, McGraw-Hill's 5 TEAS Practice Tests, and an AP Biology review book by Princeton Review that I kept from high school. Oh, and I also found youtube to be really helpful! I think it's silly that people pay $70+ for a tutor when youtube is so much more convenient...AND FREE! :)
Thanks! I am trying to stay positive but it is hard when you hear other peoples scores. I have 3.42 GPA with no repeats. So basically, I need to get atleast an 80% on my TEAS and a 4/5 on my essay. It is just so nerve racking! Thanks for the positive words
