National University Accelerated BSN

Published

Hi Everyone:

I am currently in the process of trying to get into national university's ABSN program for the fall 2009 at L.A location, anyone who has gotten into the program (both L.A and S.D) before or still in the process of applying, I would really appreciate any feedback from all of you guys about your general status (overall GPA, TEAS, etc) or your insight about this program overall. I feel like nowadays every nursing program becomes a lot more competitive than before, even for the private schools. So any feedback or comment would be very welcome from all of you guys, Thank you.

Hi. I wanted to know if NU accepts prerequisite classes taken from a community college? also, can I take the Bio stat class at NU? Is the 22 month program including prereqs or those are just only for the nursing core classes? I also wanted to know if anyone has an idea how much the whole program will cost, I cannot seem to figure out from their website since the core classes credit units were not broken down for me to calculate it.

Does NU have an application deadline or do they start a new cohort of 20 students every month?

22 month program is core nursing classes. Program around $50K. Application deadlines are every 3 mos, contact the nursing dept. at the school. Yes, they accept credits from community college. Yes, you can take the Biostat class at NU.

Good luck :)

Hi thanks for the fast response to my questions! Was it difficult to get in the program? do you think I have to retake my English, Psych and Socio classes since it was taken 10 years ago from my BS? I was going to apply to Concordia but the 12 month program just seemed too stressful and it is so competitive to get in! They are however only 38K to graduate.

I'm in the San Diego program and there are about 200 applicants for every cohort and they accept 50. It is quite competitive. I'm not sure about LA (if that is where you are), maybe someone else can speak to that. My credits were from over 10 years ago and it was fine. I think your sciences need to be more recent. I just took mine last year. I already have a degree so I didn't need to take anything else, and I made the deadline for the stats class, so I didn't have to take the new biostats requirement.

There is another thread called National University San Diego that has a wealth of information. It is very long but will answer almost all of your questions.

I need to study for a pharmacology test now :)

And, BTW, this program is quite stressful as well :)

Thank you. I do understand the stress involved. I was in a nursing program in a cc up until last March, I had to do a stop out because I got sick and when I tried to get back in, there was a huge waitlist even for returning students. I think I am done waiting thus the private school route. I am calling NU-LA tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Oh wow! A wait to get back in if you were already a student? Ugh. I recommend the private school route. Of course, I'm biased :)

Good luck to you!

Thanks expharmagirl. good luck with your pharma test! you don't have to keep answering my questions if you are busy.

I am hoping someone can answer this. I have A&P-4 units, Physio - 4 units, Microbio - 5 units taken from cc. Do you know if this is enough to satisfy the prereqs? I am seeing two A&P theory classes and 2 labs but don't know how many units these are all together.

I'll answer. I'm still on email and hating the chapter I'm reading.

National has A&P 1 and 2 because they do not separate anatomy and physiology, so it is a 2 part class. If you took them separately that is fine. It will satisfy the requirement, but you must have labs with them. Their unit structure is different as well because the classes are accelerated so for example my A&P 1 class was 4.5 units and my lab was 1.5 units. Your units will transfer. You need a lab for Micro as well.

lol. you are funny but I hear you girl. I took both basic pharma and advanced pharma already and it was such a pain to read the book. I esp. had trouble with my advanced pharma class because we were not allowed to look up our Davi's drug book for the test...it was such a pain to study for these classes! Gawd. I can't believe I have to take this over but whatever. I am hoping it will just make me a stronger student at NU.

So I called the nursing department at NU-LA today hoping to get some info regarding applications before I attend the orientation on Sept. 18. He wasn't the friendliest, I was a bit surprised by that. He almost refuses to give me details because he kept insisting my questions would be answered at the orientation. Why do they even bother to have nursing counselors on site? I think I am better off asking questions here.

Is it true that there are only two cohorts admitted every year? one in november and one in may? from reading some of the threads I thought they admit students every quarter. How long did the application process for most of you guys who already got admitted? from the time you first sent in your application until you were given acceptance letter? Please help!

I'm also scheduled to attend the LA September 18th information session. However...if I can find some written verification the Accelerated BSN program is truly 22 months I won't bother attending. The NU website seems a little sporifice with information.

Yes they do not have it posted on their website but I counted all the nursing core courses and they have 22 courses total. They have one class per month so the length of the program is 22 months. I only confirmed this info through previous students from NU but I doubt it is any different now. The ABSN program in Concordia is only 12 months at 38K so in comparison I would go to that program if I get admitted there. It is more competitive getting in CUI than NU though.
