National University Accelerated BSN

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone:

I am currently in the process of trying to get into national university's ABSN program for the fall 2009 at L.A location, anyone who has gotten into the program (both L.A and S.D) before or still in the process of applying, I would really appreciate any feedback from all of you guys about your general status (overall GPA, TEAS, etc) or your insight about this program overall. I feel like nowadays every nursing program becomes a lot more competitive than before, even for the private schools. So any feedback or comment would be very welcome from all of you guys, Thank you.

Hi Pinky687,

Apparently I am not suppose to put my email for public view and it was removed from my original post. I was told that although I cant send PM's personal mail via this website I can however receive them, so if you have any information that you could share in regards to the TEAS test, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi everyone.

I'm completely up in the air about National University. I have heard nothing but great things about the school. Does anyone know about recent grads and jobs? I'm curious to know what hospitals prefer. If a recent grad of National applied for a job, and so did a University of Oklahoma grad, what college would they prefer? Has anyone talked to any hospitals about this?

Thanks :D

Anyone hear from them yet? I'm feeling really anxious! I applied to cohort 4 Fresno, it begins May 2010.... btw

Hi karaviena,

Yes I heard for her yesterday, and i am soooooo happy to say that i got accepted into cohort 4 Fresno :yeah: ! I feel your pain I had been a mess for the last 3 1/2 weeks, just keep busy and have positive thoughts..its worth a try anyways. I wish you GOOD LUCK! Hopefully soon you will be celebrating too!

What were your grades for your prereq's (anat, physio, micro, ect)? Do you have any tips for someone applying to National's accelerated BSN program? What about their "intro to biomedical stats" class requirement? I guess you have to take that through them. Congrats on being accepted - you are my idol right now!

Hi BeanTrees,

I had all A's except in Micro I got a B+ not that the + matters LOL, all on the first attempt. I got an 89.4% on the TEAS and not sure about the essay. I did not have to take the Biomedical stats because i already took Stats and applied before the cut off date. I wish you all the best....it is such a process but well worth it..hang in there and be patient!

It's too bad National U doesn't accept International students for this program :( For Spring 2011 admission, I am only left with Cal state San Marcos *sigh*. All other schools are accepting for Summer or Fall next year. :(

congrats on getting accepted. I'm starting my biomed stat, and english online at NU and looking to apply in June for the class that starts in Oct. My overall GPA is 3.5. 2 B's and a C in my science. What are my chance of being accpeted? I went to see the couselor at the LA campus and ask about the proctored written test. I have no idea whats it about. Any advice on that?

I start in San Diego in July. We had 160 applicants for 50 spots. They look at your grades in A&P, Micro (both labs also) and Stats, how many times you took them, TEAS score, and essay. It works out to grades=50%, teas=30% and essay=20%. The proctored essay is a question they give you the day you take your teas test and they score it on a scale of 1 - 5. Usually along the lines of why you want to go into nursing, or what skills you have that will make you a successful nurse or the like. The question changes for each group taking the test.

I'm not sure how many applicants there are in LA, but I'm sure the point system is the same university wide...

Thanks for your replied. I didn't retake any of the science classes. So, i was wondering if i should or not. Now the 50 spots that were chosen, does that include both accelerated bsn and generic entry students? Also, i'm getting ready to start studying for the teas. Do you know what version it is? I just wanted to prepare myself for everything because i really need to score good in it to even being consider into the program. The fact that they only accept so little students, kinda discourage me if i had to compete with applicants with their bachelor. I feel like i have nothing on the table for them to even consider me :(

Hey RAINonMe:

I'm actually in the 2nd cohort at the LA campus & can honestly tell you that you still have a good chance to get accepted. When I applied for fall 2009, only 40 people applied for 20 spots. Of those who applied for spring 2010, the number of applicants went substantially up (I think 45-50?). I had a pretty subpar GPA & TEAS score, but I think it was my essay that secured my spot.

You still have a shot, your grades aren't poor! Study for the TEAS and do well on your essay! Get the ATI study guide - San Diego uses version 3.0/4.0, and even take the online assessment to practice. All of the TEAS questions are similar to the ones in the guide in terms of how they are set up and complexity.

I didn't realize there were so few applicants in LA! That is awesome!
