What do you think is the most important attribute of today’s professional case manager?
Empathy is the most important attribute because all the rest will follow. If you are able to understand and truly relate to the situations our patients face, you will be more willing to go above and beyond to help them. Empathy motivates you to advocate, educate, find the answers/resources, make all the phone calls, take your time, follow-up, and learn more to become the best case manager you can be.

I provide myself with opportunities to create change within me. This is very important for me is to model appropriate behaviors and share with others what I have learned to create the change. This provides inspiration to others because of me being authentic at all times. Thinking and breathing allows living your life with balance regardless of the barriers in your life. The ability to see a patient as a whole person. Many clinicians are laser-focused on managing the patient in whatever setting they care for them in (hospital, clinic, etc.), but case managers have the keen skill of digging deeper to find out the story of what brought them in and what is the environment they are going back to when they leave. Case managers are detectives that put all the pieces of the puzzle together for the best possible outcomes.

My favorite method is to decompress and treat myself to a healthy daily session of quiet focused thought is WHM (Wim Hof Method) breathing and breath retention.
I also set an hourly timer to perform quick hourly calisthenic exercises (ex: 25 push ups or 10 lunges with each leg).
2) What do you think Is the most important attribute of today’sprofessional case manager?
I think that emotional intelligence is the most important attribute that we case managers possess to most effectively assist our patients through complex problem solving.
The most important attribute as a nurse is to treat our patients holistically. We are not to judge. They are hurting and dealing with many things. We should embrace them as they are like family to us. We treat them with passion. We advocate for their needs. We use critical thinking skills to do our very best. At the end of the day we did our very best and bring hope to our patients. That’s what nursing is about life experiences and faith in our profession. This is the attribute of nursing having faith in our profession and standing proudly for all nurses. We are the beacon of hope.
