Nassau Community College Spring 2015

Published

Hey Everyone!!!! i didnt see a thread for NCC spring 2015 nursing program, so i figured i start one. Anyone plan on applying for spring semester?

You could also share some insight if you're already in the program. Like how the application process was for you and your gpa as well as TEAS scores. im sure any info would be helpful.

Hi sergeena ,

I did have my scores sent to ncc but I also brought a copy with me to staple to the application. I suggest you bring a copy with you to make life easier. The lady in the nursing dept said she doesn't need high school transcripts because the college has them on file. She only needed all your college transcripts.

Thank you for the quick response!

How'd you get you test scores sent? I've been having problems with it, I just can't find Nassau CC on the list to send the scores on the ATI website. The copy you brought was the one printed off the ATI website, yes? And the lady had no problem with the one you brought her? Sorry for all these questions =] I'm not a Ncc student so I guess they are requesting one because they don't have one on file.

No problem! Yes the score I printed came from the website. Nope she looked through my application & was like oh good your teas lol. Oh ok well yea since you don't go to ncc you need to bring your high school transcripts. I don't mind questions :)

hi Everyone

Im currently a non-matriculated student at NCC and I applied to the Spring nursing program the second week in Oct. This is my 2nd option if I dont make it into SB accelerated program.

AP1 B+

Stat A

Comp1 B

Gen Psych A

Roughly a 3.60 GPA

Teas V 67.3%

Good luck to everyone

Hey, guys. I'm currently a Nursing student at NCC, started this Fall. I finished my associates from NCC and a Bachelor's from Stony Brook this past summer. The four classes that are required are the only GPA's they take into account. As far as I know; your grades, your location, credits taken at NCC, and TEAS scores are all taken into account with admission. I have people in my class that scored in the high 60's and got into the program, the TEAS weighs the least from what I've gathered. I got a 79 on the TEAS with a 3.8 GPA for the required classes and a 3.4 overall. You won't be able to pick your own schedule the first semester, I got stuck with Huntington Hospital for clinicals and I live in Queens, lol. As far as the program is concerned, I can't speak for all the instructors, but my instructors have gone beyond the call of duty to mold us into Nurses. Oh, and the tests are extremely tricky, you can know all the information but knowing information and applying the "Nursing Process" are too totally different things! I came out of my second test (50 questions) thinking the worse I could do was a 86-90, ended up getting a 70!

what were your prereq grades when u applied to the program?

They said they are working on a bachelors degree program at Nassau. When I took A&P last semester all the students in my class had to sign a petition to agree on saying yes to a bachelors nursing program at Nassau

Thank you for all this information! What did you get your bachelors in at Stony Brook? And do you have to take any summer classes/clinicals for the nursing program?

I have my Bachelors in Humanities (which is extinct at Stony Brook now), in fact none of the classes I took at Stony Brook were evaluated for the program, I already had all my classes from Nassau. You're completely off for the summer but they offer retention programs to keep things fresh in your mind. You get tested on skills and Computation of Dosage everytime you start a new semester. Passing for the COmputation is 85 and you get three chances with each score being averaged in.

hey everyone! i am also a student at NCC Nursing that started in the fall. I am in the evening program and yes what is being said is true. the 4 pre reqs(4.0 on pre-reqs), the teas(68) and your location(queens) plays a factor. but what i did notice was that a good chunk of my classmates had first degrees. i do my rotations at winthrop and also live in queens. you do not pick your clinical site or groups. umm what stevendeonarain said was true the exams are tricky and you can go in knowing everything and just from the wording get tripped up. first exam i aced it, i studied 2 weeks for the 2nd exam and got a 78 :-/ there is a such thing as studying TOO much. don't tire yourself out! if possible take a nap before the exam or drink coffee or refrain from doing questions too close to the exam. you will tire your brain out!

also clinicals….ahhh just check your feelings at the door and you'll be good

Get Nugent and Vitale fundamentals success!! saved my life!!! prepared me for questions esp for the exams!

and i work full time. its HARD but doable, at least with NUR 101. Good luck to you all! try as hard as you can when you make it in! thats the easy part! staying in is the challenge!

Hey does anyone know when we get acceptance letters by??!!!!

We should get our letters the week of the 17th or the following week. Time is going so slow.
