My turn to rant :)

Published

Our finals are next week and of course they are throwing tons of final assignments on us this week -- this morning we had an exam in Pharm and tomorrow morning an exam in medsurg.

To top it off my gastric ulcers have been flaring horribly this weekend (big shocker uh?) and I haven't felt well and thus really didn't study as much as I should have.

But the rant is really this ----

I came to the shocking realization this morning - after the exam - how sad it is that nursing school reduces you to the knowledge that an 80 is almost failing. An 80 really isn't that bad, and I'm actually happy with it considering the amount of time that I didn't spend studying.. But in all other programs an 80 is a B, but nursing school a very LOW C :)

That's it -- lol

Best of luck to everyone finishing up this semester.

I could rant too. My final was today and was cancelled and moved until next week.

How is having 80% sad? You are responsible for people's lives. Ask any patient whether they want a nurse that passed nursing school with a 70% passing standard or one that had a 80% passing standard.

didn't say it was sad -- BUT you are implying an overall course grade and I'm talking about 1 exam.. I still have an A in the course...

And I do admit that I didn't prepare like I should have.. so I assume full responsibility for the score.

While I agree that we care for peoples lives.....I too has a few issues with the feeling that an 80% makes you feel like you failed.

Trust me I have met quite a few over educated idiots in my time that had straight A's....they were usually in management...

The school I went to for my first undergrad degree actually forbid teachers from making assignments due/having quizzes the last week of class before finals! We were spoiled, it was quite the adjustment this semester taking my last test in every class last week, and now having cumulative finals this week. Ahh!

Good luck to you, hope your stomach starts feeling better soon!

i wish that was the case here.. I'm 45 and the 1st time I went to college not everyone had email and I'm not happy with some of these assignments are getting posted via email and coming out on a Sat night due Tues morning.. but whatever I just have to make it through using their rules right? :)

update -- apparently there were some questions that got marked incorrectly on the computer so points were added back and there was also 2 bonus questions that were not graded by the computer so those points were added..

Final grade 88 -- low B but hey I'll take it :) the class size is 40 students and the median average was 86.. so i'm higher than average.

at risk of sounding like a broken record, the passing number means nothing, only the standards to get there. my high school was 60 passing, and was considered a very good school. nursing school the same. grade inflation is rampant.
