My son is missing

Published

My 17 year old son has been missing since last night. We've had trouble with him in the past year with drinking and marijuana, and he's been in counseling. But the past few months he's been clean. We know this because we have him randomly tested. His grades improved, his personality improved.

Last night he got drunk with a friend and they vandalized a car. He called us this morning on his cell phone, and said he was lost in some woods, then the battery went dead. I know he's terrified of the trouble he's going to be in.

I'm not excusing his behavior. He will have to pay the consequences when he comes home. But he does have a suspected anxiety disorder and when something goes wrong, he panics.

The police went looking for him, my husband is looking for him, our friends are looking for him. I'm waiting by the phone. After two hours, the police called off their search saying that if he knows they're looking it will chase him away even more. How in the heck is he supposed to know they aren't looking for him??????

It's cold and raining out and he's only wearing a t-shirt and jeans. I only hope he finds shelter.

I'm not even sure why I posted this here. I just know that in the past you've all given your prayers and best wishes to others.

I have never been so lost or so scared in my life.

CyberKat, don't know how I missed this post. I am so glad that he is okay. I feel for you and him. My brother tried out the tough guy thing at about that same age and after having a wreck and having the police take him in and call mom and dad, he turned out ok. Will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers during these trying times.. Don't give up, just hang tough. He will turn out ok and be the wiser for it.

Hugs to you Cyberkat,

My brother was a nightmare for my parents and my Mum always said he would end up in prison or on the armed forces.

Thankfully the Royal Air Force accepted him and then he got in trouble with the police (stealing cars). They put him in a cell and heavied him for the night but as he was already accepted for the RAF the police gave him a caution and told my parents to sit on him until they delivered him to the RAF for basic training.

He's now a corporal, married with two wonderful children and you would not recognise the man he's turned into. He makes Mum proud.

Be strong with him. Love him. There's always hope.

cyberkat,

I just now read about this... so sorry to hear what you've been through, but am so very glad you have your son back. I hope you're able to help him turn around. He's lucky to have a mom who loves him so much!

CyberKat, my thoughts and prayers with you. My son put us through some rough times too; now he's getting ready to graduate from college (student body President) and going Air Force ROTC. Deep down, your son knows he's loved. Hold on and hang tough. And take care of yourself, too! Your own health is important. Nursemouse.

Cyberkat, I also had missed this thread, I am so happy you have found your son. My prayers are with you and your family. Parenting is the toughest job in the world, and kids don't come with instruction manuels, do they? Let us know how you and your family are doing, and as Nursemouse said, take care of yourself, too.
