My son is missing

My 17 year old son has been missing since last night. We've had trouble with him in the past year with drinking and marijuana, and he's been in counseling. But the past few months he's been clean. We know this because we have him randomly tested. His grades improved, his personality improved.

Last night he got drunk with a friend and they vandalized a car. He called us this morning on his cell phone, and said he was lost in some woods, then the battery went dead. I know he's terrified of the trouble he's going to be in.

I'm not excusing his behavior. He will have to pay the consequences when he comes home. But he does have a suspected anxiety disorder and when something goes wrong, he panics.

The police went looking for him, my husband is looking for him, our friends are looking for him. I'm waiting by the phone. After two hours, the police called off their search saying that if he knows they're looking it will chase him away even more. How in the heck is he supposed to know they aren't looking for him??????

It's cold and raining out and he's only wearing a t-shirt and jeans. I only hope he finds shelter.

I'm not even sure why I posted this here. I just know that in the past you've all given your prayers and best wishes to others.

I have never been so lost or so scared in my life.

As I started to read your post three days later my only thought was Dear God , I hope he was found and ok. Praise the Lord your son is ok.:)

The battle has just begun I will pray for you in your quest for "tough live"

There should be a specific organization for mothers of teen agers or mothers of mostly grown adults or mothers of young adults or something like that. After all there are plently of things for mothers of preschoolers, school age you get my drift. We could have a cute acronym like "MOPS" (mothers of prescholers).

O well off my soap box for now just praise the Lord your son is safe!!!!!!

cyberkat:

So sorry that I just now read this posting. I was sooooo relieved to hear that you found him. Believe me, you are doing the right thing. My sister had a daughter who went thro some bad stuff at that same age and Sis had to press charges on her as an "unruly child" and the threat was there then that *one more thing* and she would go to JDC. It scared my niece to pieces and helped her to start to straighten up. Now, four years later, Niece is graduated from HS, and works as a nurses' aide at an assissted living for Alzheimers' patients!!!! :) How about that for a turn-around?

So I will continue to keep you & the family in prayers that a similar happy story will ensue.

Keep us posted. We love you & want the best for your family!

You are in my prayers. My children are all grown, but it takes me back to when they were teenagers with problems. Stay strong and lean on others for support.
