My push to the finish line!

Here's the deal fellow pre-reqers. I have 37 credits left to transfer to my BSN dream school. Now that I know what I want to do I don't want to take longer than I have to to become a nurse. So I'm aiming for Spring 2014 acceptance. I was going to take an accelerated 2 week winter class (-3 credits) 5 spring classes (-16 credits) A&P boot camp over the summer which is 16 weeks of A&P I and A&P II(-8 credits) and then 4 fall classes (-13 credits)

Am I crazy to try and compact this into 1 year. I only work 1 or 2 days a week and have my fiancees full support. I am an A student currently, but I've only been taking 1-3 classes a semester on and off since I graduated high school in 2006 (I previously worked full time.)

What is the craziest your schedule has been? What classes WOULDN'T you take together and why? I know everyone has different weaknesses, but it's nice to be presented with different struggles of different people to think about all the possibilities. What does your "push to the finish" look like?

My brother is a Nurse and said that the 3 most difficult prerequisite courses were Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology. He said to NOT take all 3 at the same time. Anatomy is the easiest of the three and recommended to take that first. He said Physiology was the most difficult.

I would not take a&p or micro with a math, or together. Our advisors also tell us this at our college. That's my only advice! My craziest semester was human development and a&p II...so I have much respect for those who pull off full loads!

I did it, you can too. I am currently in a ABSN program. Before I was accepted, I took: AP1, AP2, Chem 101, nutrition, developmental psych online, interpersonal communication during spring semester spread across 3 different colleges. Summer load: Abnormal psych, micro, org/biochem. Fall: stat, wait for nursing school interview invitations to be sent out. Following spring: nursing school interview and eventual acceptance. Like I said, I did it, others can too. I knew it would be hard, but that's why it feels so good knowing I'm in nursing school now and it feels great. You can do it, don't ever let anyone say you are crazy or that you can't. Just wait till you get that big beautiful envelope with those magic words inside "congratulations! You have been accepted to....." the hard work and long nights of studying will be worth it and you will let the satisfaction of your hard work wash over you as you get ready to embark on a new journey. Good luck!

My previous post was my experience and it worked best for my family and goals. Take the advice of others, but you will know what you can and can't handle. Use these nursing forums to your advantage. Many people on here with experience and knowledge to guide you. They helped me and I just read the dialogue between people picking up tips and nuggets of info here and there.

I do think you're a little crazy on your spring 2013 semester as well as your summer 2013 semester. I've just been admitted into nursing school and I start in January. Anatomy, physio, and microbio are definitely the hardest classes. I took Anatomy along with Chemistry in one semester, while working 20 hours a week. The following semester, I took Physio and Microbio together. It was really tough, but managed to get A's in all my classes. Admittedly, there were a few days when I had to call in sick to work because I needed the extra time to study, and I don't procrastinate! I would highly not recommend taking A&P during the summer. Everyone says it's suicide. Of course, it is possible to get an A. But it's really difficult. And personally, I wouldn't jeopardize my GPA just to get all my classes done in one fell swoop. Having too many W's and retakes on your transcript can work against you.

For the time being, I'd say be flexible. Keep your schedule the way it is now. Attend the first week and compare all the syllabuses at home on your calendar and see how often your exams and assignments overlap. Be realistic about whether you can handle that load and still get A's. Good luck!

Thanks for saying I'm not crazy and that you did it! I know it will be a hard year, but I have two killer years ahead of that anyways, what's one more when the return on investment is soo incredibly huge!

I would really make sure you have good professors who are excellent at teaching the information for the summer A & P classes. I tried to speed up by a semester & take A & P 1 in the summer.. I had a horrible teacher. I am retaking it now, but it has pushed me back some. If you need to take an extra semester for pre reqs, do it. Good luck!

What are you guys taking next semester?
