My NCLEX Disaster

Nurses New Nurse

I don't know if I should scream, throw-up, start drinking heavily, or give up and go to dog-grooming school instead of being a nurse. I was a solid B-student in nursing school. Reviewed for 6 weeks with Kaplan, Saunders, Mosby's, etc. Did extremely well on all "the tests" and now I am wondering why I even reviewed, because NO amount of preparation could have prepared me for the questions I had. I actually had a question about what to teach a guy with sickle cell who had a 3-hour erection! :smokin: How about throwing away the VIAGRA?? :D. But of course that wasn't an option :chuckle

The computer shut-off at 75 so I suppose it figured I was just to freakin' incompetent to go on any further :uhoh3: Now the wait begins.

I read elsewhere on these forums that someone said that the administrator for their exam had said he had never heard of someone failing at 75 questions...I felt the same way as you when I took my exam in May, thought I'd failed, got cut off at 75...I was like "NO! You can't stop me now, I can make up for the wrong ones, I swear!" ...but I didn't, and now I'm licensed and about to start work in Nebraska. :) I don't know about what happens after 75 questions...but you got cut off at 75 and so my guess is that's a good sign.

I know what you mean. In nursing school I was a solid A-/B+ kid and I dedicated 7 days a week, 4-5 hours per day for 3 weeks to studying Kaplan, Mosby, and Lippincott. I just took the test and my computer shut down at 75 too! I feel like such a loser because everything I studied did not prepare me for this. Oh well..........:imbar

How long do you have to wait for your results? I will know by tomorrow A.M. by checking the state board of nursing site. A few people have told me that if you call our board they will tell you over the phone after 24 hours (you have to provide SSN#) - but I am too scared and for me it would be devastating to hear it from a real live person :uhoh21:

I found out mine the next morning on the Minnesota board of nursing's site, by accident. I didn't realize it would be posted there, and when I logged in it had a yellow box saying "passed exam" on the side. I just about fell out of my chair. Maybe your board of nursing will have it online, so you can check rather than call...but, honestly you probably DID pass so you probably don't have to worry. And it's not like you know the person on the phone anyway.

Hey! i took my exam also on June 28th! and i had the max ...265... i totally agree with you,,, i studied for weeks.. and felt as though i was completely prepared and as i started taking the exam i wanted to scream and cry... i had some crazy questions as well.. good luck with your results!!

every one calm down. I know how you feel. computer shut off at 75 and i thought i was going to be sick then pass out. but i passed and you did too. i keep hearing that some people are randomly selected to take all 265. just for the fun of it i guess.also had a wierd ? child with lead poisoning. only two i considered on home built afer 1978 and the one i chose family made stained glass windows. now what nursing book teaches ,that you use lead canes in stained glass.also probably to do with blood flow in sickle cell. always call dr.and some people i am in orientation with passed with 82? 210? and 250? so it ain't over if you take between 75 and 265

I guess I am just going to wait 2 business days then do the quick results thing. When you came home yesterday, did you look up any of the answers that you remembered beside that priapasm one? I had a member question today. It was a guy comes in with a rash on his hands and member and states that his PCP has tested him for all STD's and he does not have any. I selected the answer, "ask what type of birth control he uses" thinking hmmmmmm.....latex allergy? I HATE WAITING!!!!I feel like I need to use my plan B already. :crying2:

the nclex has got to be the most nerve-wracking test ever devised. if i ever take the nclex (and my dreams of becoming a nurse are slowly fading into the sunset) i will probably become a basket case for the time i have to wait for the results.
