You paid a lot of money for scrubs! You can find them cheaper online.:typing I started out with 1 pair that I got from the store, but then I got 2 more pair I found for cheap ($9.99-$14.00 for a set) on the internet. I work full-time too and I alternate between the three pairs of scrubs I have. If you're nervous, all you can do is do the best you can, learn something new each day, and as time goes by things will just come naturally. Enjoy your first day!:)
On that note I wouldn't run out and buy a ton of scrubs right away. I bought mine pretty gradually and I'm glad I did. You get sick of the same ones after a while or you decide you want a different scrub style- you'll notice that some people always wear a solid top and bottom in the same color, others like solids but in complimentary colors, and then others only wear prints- and there are a lot of great prints out there. If you're working full time you only need 5 sets- one for every day of the week, but I have around 12 sets, which is good for me because I hate doing laundry every week.
Thanks everyone! I was robbed! lol. I see now I can get them a lot cheaper. I think this week I will just rotate. And maybe this weekend buy a couple more just so I have enough for a week.
Today was long...I like the residents and 99 percent of the staff - there is this cna who is loud and was cursing right in front of the residents during lunch. I was disgusted. She was so loud I thought someone would say something but they didn't and she was sitting right next to a resident feeding him. And the stuff we learned in school...yea pretty much out the door. I see it's just do what you have to do to get it done fast. I thought I would have a trouble with the smell of bm but actually it's urine. It's just so strong. I know I'll get over that though. I didn't know LPNs run nursing homes though...I always just thought RNs did. But we only have 1 or 2 RNs and 5 times that in LPNs. Interesting.
Thanks for the advice. Off to bed now ..
Cool - it sounds like you had a great first Day. The scrubs - yes I discovered price is right. There is always going to be that One CNA in a Nursing Home - there is always going to be this and that. A RN or if not more than one in a Nursing Home - does run the show - most important has the responsibility. You may very well work with more LVNs.
Sounds like you have a great and happy attitude. Congratulations and don't forget - there will be new bees like you. :loveya: This is more than a job - it is also about us the whole heath team and we are the ones that make it work together.
Good luck! you'll be fine after about a week or two.. it will be like second nature. As far as scrubs... try either online or Walmart. I bought a bunch of scrubs at for about $10 - $15 a piece. I also found a uniform shop near my house that had an end of season sale and got a bunch of things for $5. Just look around and I'm sure you'll find cheaper ones.. don't pay full price.

Hey everyone, I start my first job as a cna 2moro morning. I'm very new and kind of nervous. The big orientation for new cna's is in a week but the head nurse said she wanted me to come in tomorrow to start early. I don't know why...I think they just need someone asap...the girl I'm replacing just got her adn last tuesday and can't work legally as a cna. Last night I had dreams/nightmares about it...lol probably just nerves. I only have 3 pairs of scrubs b/c they're so flipping expensive. $40 for 1 pair. How was your first day??? Any tips? How many scrubs should I have to start with....I'm working full time plus every other weekend if that helps. :heartbeat
Thanks!
