My Back Up Plan aka "Plan B" lol

So after reviewing my points for entry into the Fall '08 program I got pretty disappointed realizing I don't have as many points as I would have liked. I asked one of my CNA instructors what I should do if I have to wait a semester to get into the program and he said that if I didn't get in for fall to consider it a blessing in disguise. He told me that I may be better off that way. I really didn't want to hear that, I was kinda hoping he would say, "don't worry you'll get in" lol but he didn't. He then proceeded to tell me to start taking my pre-req's for the RN-BSN program so that when I was ready to do the BSN thing then I would only have to commit 1 year instead of 2 because I would have my prereq's done. So after going through the local universities RN-BSN prereq's I started mapping out my "Plan B" --(if I don't get in for Fall '08) and quite frankly, my Plan B looks better than my plan A. So now I have just taken a weight off my shoulder. Either way I win. My suggestion: map out your back up plan and you will take a big chunk of stress out of your life.

It is good to have a "plan B". At least you know if you don't make it you have a backup plan that isn't half bad. I used plan B while starting a family. It has paid off. I am starting my BSN program in the fall. It seemed like it would never get here but it is rapidly approaching. Either way you will be making progress toward your goal. Best of luck!

Good idea...I have actually thought about a PLan B, but have yet to come up with one....hopefully something will come to me!

I have a plan B, C, D, etc. I am so committed to getting into a great nursing school. The hardest thing, though, is keeping up with prerequisite courses. Some schools need these courses and other schools need that course....it's a lot to keep up with.

OP: your plan B was my plan B except I also needed to finish my ADN co-requisites, work, and to lose weight (exercise and eat right). I accomplished all of my goals for my Plan B since I did not get accepted the first try.

I am very happy I did! Now I am in-shape and in nursing school taking only clinical courses. I also work part-time because I still have a savings despite the thousands I had to spend to begin nursing school. Plus I have completed all of my RN-BSN pre-reqs with the exception of one course, which I will knock out before I graduate. Good luck! :wink2:

That is exactly my plan. It would make it that much easier to just keep on going after you get your RN out of the way.

I am seconding MBA2BRNs post, as sometimes the Plan B can actually work out in a better way than originally intended. I've only applied to one program for Fall '07 and my Plan B isn't entirely complicated...if I don't get in to UCLA then I get to try all over again next year. The Plan B part involves finances really...if I don't get in this fall it merely means that I have another year to build up my savings/pay down all debt, and build up my resume and personal statement with further volunteer opportunities/experience. That way, if I need to submit another round of apps for Fall '08 I'll be an even more attractive candidate and I'll be in a better position financially. This is the mindset I have to keep me positive about this path whether it happens this year or next. :nuke:

I did the same thing! And then when I was told I didn't make it to start this Spring, I was excited about my plan B to get my RN-BSN classes out of the way. I was ALMOST disappointed when they called me and told me I could start the ADN program after all. Almost ;) It's always good to have an alternate plan, even if you are *sure* you'll get in. Yeah, I'm really excited about Plan B. I think I will be really excited if I get in for this fall (I said '08...I meant '07, I was jumping ahead) too but I have never felt so relieved and who knew that all it took was a second pathway. Anyway you guys are awesome. MBA2BRN-I'm so happy to hear about your plan b working out in your benefit, sounds like you are doing the best you can for yourself.

I have the same plan going. I have the chance to get into a few programs as soon as July but, although I am not going to say no to them if I get in, I really want to wait so all I have the the Core Classes all the way up to BSN as well.
