Music while studying / textbook readings?

Just curious to see all of your study habbits and whether or not you are able to listen to music or use noise generators like white noise, etc while doing textbook readings for comprehension. I am looking into trying this out but I just do not want to end up reading an entire chapter or two and not comprehending anything.

100% yes. I have to. What I listen to depends on my mood. Today I listened to One Direction (yes, I know...) while doing study guides. But I have to have music on and that stems from years of gymnastics and tuning out everything but the beam. I tend to do better with songs I don't know that well because I don't start signing along.

I listen to Beethoven, Mozart, and the like while I study and do homework. I cannot have any words or I stop singing and so much for studying! lol

I listen to soundtracks. Skyrim, LOTR, Star Wars....all great orchestrations and no words. My first choice is my Skyrim station on Pandora (I have PandoraOne so I don't get those stupid ads).

Honestly I can't tell you what I'm listening to. The volume is high enough that I can hear it (barely) but not high enough that I can tell you if its hard core rap or classical :) I usually put Pandora on and have it do a random play of my 'stations'.

I've heard that you recall information best in a situation similar to how you learned it. So, since you won't be able to listen to music during exams, it might be worthwhile to at least do some of your studying without music.

If I listen to anything, I prefer classical, but mostly I prefer silence. I can usually get more work done in the library than arewhere else (if I can stay off FB or AN, that is!)

If I do choose to listen to music, I usually turn Pandora on; more specifically, the Radiohead or Massive Attack station. It's mellow & not too distracting. But I cannot have complete silence, that is way too distracting! (if that makes sense :)

I get it! If the room is silent, my mind is not. I will get no studying done, but instead, I will have paid my bills, re-wrote my planner, and figured out the square root of 37389404.
