I'm not sure about other students..but for me I LOVE listening to peaceful Christmas music while I do my homework/ care plans. It really gets me focused and puts me in the best mood! Anybody else out there do the same thing?
I'm completely the opposite of most people on this thread haha. I listen to EDM while studying---a lot of it is rhythmic and pump-up music. It makes me feel excited and energized. Music that is too relaxing makes me sleepy... the same music I use for working out actually I like for studying.
Favorite study songs are 'Sound of the Drums' by Armin Van Buuren, 'Goodbye' by Andrew Rayel, and 'Shotgun' by W&W. 'Goodbye' actually reminds me of nursing a lot. For some reason, it plays in my mind when I work too.
You know, I'm not a Christian, but for some reason lately the best music for my studies has been Choral Music Radio, on Pandora. It's peaceful and droning without a whole lot of fluctuation and that works for longer sessions. It's also not jarring like some classical music can be. For a more intense and shorter study session, I like to mix it up with the Takenobu Radio/Zoe Keating Radio/ Trentemoller Radio stations... all of which are contemporary ambient/classical.
OK, student nurses. Try Baroque. It is classical, but it is not intrusive, distracting, or "jarring" as another poster mentioned. This "jarring" classical music is what I call "Angry Russian Composers." (As in Rachmaninoff).
Also steer clear of Maurice Ravel. Many of his works will drive you to drinking.
Some forms of classical--including baroque--have been shown to improve concentration and retention.
Start with Vivaldi's Four Seasons. You will never study better. Really. I am on the ADD side of the energy/concentration spectrum, and baroque centers and calms the mind.
I've taken many online tests with baroque playing in the background. It's like magic for calming the nerves. :)

I can totally believe this to be true. Problem is, I'm kind of a classical music nerd. Mom's fault I guess. I remember when I was around 10 years old I was on a Brandenburg Concerto kick and would put those records on (that makes me officially old) at least once a day. I like baroque too much, so it distracts me.
