Hello everyone!! My name is Jada and I am an aspiring nursing student! I currently live in Virginia and I just applied for the fall 2016 accelerated BSN program at Medical University of South Carolina! I know I'm early in starting this forum but I'm so excited and anxious already to find out about acceptance. I was hoping to meet people, in state and out of state, who also will be applying to MUSC for the fall 2016 start and see how everyone's stats are so far. I currently have about a 3.1 in my science gpa:(, and a 3.4 for my overall gpa. I do not hold a bachelors degree in any other subject. I currently work as a sitter in the hospital but worked as a nurse aide in a nursing home for 8 months. I volunteered in the hospital but was only able to work 25 hours over the holiday break because my school and work schedule are so hectic right now. I really am hoping and praying to get into MUSC, it's my number one! Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

Hey Jada! My name is Lucas, I've applied to the same program as you! I live in SC, actually, just about an hour north of Charleston! I could've applied to the program for this spring, but decided to wait, and took a few extra science courses to boost my GPA. My current stats are: Cumulative: 3.4, Science: 3.5, Pre-req: I think is 3.6 range, but don't hold me to that, because I have no idea how they calculate that one! Lol. I have a ton of volunteer hours, but no actual clinical work... which I hope doesn't kill my chances of getting in. I also tutored students in BIO courses such as A&P, Micro, Intro/Cell and Chemistry, which was mostly general. Chem was my favorite subject out of everything I took! haha! Anyway, I wish you the best on getting in! I hope to hear back from you on here!
Hey Lucas! Your stats are looking great!! I'm just really nervous about my volunteer hours because my science GPA is not the highest. But there is nothing I can do about it now other thank to wait! I was going to wait to apply for the spring semester but since they accept two applications a year I just decided that I would apply for the fall as well because I would really love to start this fall. I am currently in chemistry and it is not my favorite subject haha but it is still an interesting course. Microbiology was probably my favorite course out of all the science that I have taken. Good luck to you and I hope to hear from you !
Thanks! I feel like they're some-what mediocre, although, it is a solid B+ / A- GPA on the levels they're checking. I'm just worried something is going to hold me back, between the essay or resume' and clinical hours. :/ I have seen so many posts on here where everyone's stats were amazing but clinical WORK is a MUST, apparently. Volunteer work just doesn't seem to cut it, but I think you get points for it. Have you contacted them since applying? I know it's only been 4 weeks since the application closed, but I check the University Application Progress page constantly! haha It says the same thing every. single. time.
I know what you mean! I read a whole thread from the spring 2015 applicants on this website!í ½í¸« I have not contacted them since it hasn't been too long but I really want to. I will give it another 4 weeks before I contact them! I check my application status all the time as well! What kind of volunteer work do you have? Also, do you have a bachelors degree already? I do not and I'm afraid that might set me back along with my volunteer hours and essay.
I was doing hours when I was in high school for CNA but got mono at the end and couldn't complete the course but besides that, I volunteer at my local hospital. The last couple years it's just busy work, such as: paperwork, scribe work, etc. Nothing real clinical but it's in a clinical setting. I don't have a bachelors, I am a year shy of one though. I don't think it really matters if you have a degree or not, I've read on here where people had a degree and got in or didn't. It's just a matter of how "well rounded" you are. OH and I hope my references were as good as I thought they were! haha
I am about a year and a half shy of one as well. But man that is horrible that you weren't able to finish:( at least you have a lot of volunteer hours in a hospital! I actually just got a job as a medical scribe in an orthopedic office. I think you will get in though!
I hope so! It'd be a dream come true. I hope you do too! & That's awesome! I just applied for a scribe position recently, just to get more involved in a clinical setting. How do you like it so far? Oh and if you don't mind me asking... are you in any classes right now? If so, does your page say: "partial transcript received" ?
Hey! I'm sorry it took me so long to reply! I've been super busy, yes I am currently taking classes and my application status does say partial transcript received. I really like my scribe position, eventually I hope to work in a doctors office so this is a great experience for me. I am a scribe for an orthopedic doctor. Have you found any scribe jobs so far?
I completely understand! lol I'm only taking 1 course as of the moment, and it's pretty simple. Dimensional Analysis for Meds, it's an introductory nursing math course (I guess is the best way to put it). I wish I could update my resume, I was informed a few weeks ago of an opening in the OR at the hospital I am at now, and was approved to transfer! I will be leaving Wound Care as of Monday. But that's awesome! Any experience I think is a great thing, and they love it too! There were openings at the hospital that I work at but I'm in a program here already, and I don't see a need to learn something new and work at it until the summer IF I get accepted. The anticipation is killing me I read a few threads on here and people got acceptance letters about 7 weeks after applying... Some called, but I'm too scared to do that haha.

Hello! :) I just wanted to peek in here and wish you guys the best of luck! I am in my last semester of the ABSN program at MUSC. I just wanted to say that grades aren't everything. If you've showed consistency throughout then you should be okay. What they want to see is that you are well-rounded in other aspects and not just a 4.0 GPA. They would like to see some type of volunteer work / job experience preferably in a hospital setting, but I know some of my classmates did not have this type of experience. If you guys have questions about the program I will be happy to answer them. If not, good luck!
Well.. I got my letter today informing me that I was selected as an alternate idk how it all works, because there is apparently no "ranking" of alternates. I hope you get in! And Mocapoca good luck in your final semester there! :)
