MUSC fall 2016

Published

Hello everyone!! My name is Jada and I am an aspiring nursing student! I currently live in Virginia and I just applied for the fall 2016 Accelerated BSN program at Medical University of South Carolina! I know I'm early in starting this forum but I'm so excited and anxious already to find out about acceptance. I was hoping to meet people, in state and out of state, who also will be applying to MUSC for the fall 2016 start and see how everyone's stats are so far. I currently have about a 3.1 in my science gpa:(, and a 3.4 for my overall gpa. I do not hold a bachelors degree in any other subject. I currently work as a sitter in the hospital but worked as a nurse aide in a nursing home for 8 months. I volunteered in the hospital but was only able to work 25 hours over the holiday break because my school and work schedule are so hectic right now. I really am hoping and praying to get into MUSC, it's my number one! Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

Well.. I got my letter today informing me that I was selected as an alternate :( idk how it all works, because there is apparently no "ranking" of alternates. I hope you get in! And Mocapoca good luck in your final semester there! :)

Thanks, and don't give up. People relinquish their seat for a variety of reasons. I think one person in my class was on the alternate list and they called her the day before classes started to see if she still wanted to matriculate!

Thanks for the encouragement! Although it's all beyond my control... If I don't get in, I'm going to be applying for the spring! I have an application in at another school, but won't hear back until the end of the month. Even if I get in there, I'm probably going to sit out, and try MUSC again. That's my dream program, I went to CofC, I LOVE Charleston. :)

If you find out that you don't get in, email the BSN coordinator and ask what it is that you can improve on your application. If you try out their suggestions I have a strong feeling you will get in. Plus, the application cycle for the spring is less competitive due to a decrease in the amount of applicants. So that could also work to your advantage, But for now, keep hope alive!

So IF I don't hear back from them soon, I might as well assume it's a no. I will contact the coordinator and apply for next spring. I have tremendous amount of hope into the alternate selection, but due to not knowing how many, nor my rank... It's tough :( lol bc I know everything can go the opposite of how I would like. Thanks for all the information, between the LONG strand of posts on here when you were applying to now... It's amazing someone cares this much about seeing others succeed! I tutor bio and chem students and I like seeing them accomplish things. It's nice to know someone else is out there who enjoys seeing others succeed it too! If I get in, I will surely be posting to this to inform you!

Aww, you're welcome! It's all about teamwork! We need more nurses, so there's no need to hide information. I would be doing a disservice to my profession if I did that. Hand in there and please update when you hear something! If you need any advice let me know!

Hi! I remember you, I know that may sound weird ahaha but I read your whole thread when you were going through your application process!! How has the program been for you? It so exciting that you are almost done!

hey!! No it doesn't sound weird at all lol. I was all over the place on this forum back in 2014 when I was applying for the program. It was such a nerve-wrecking but rewarding experience. I have had an overall positive experience with the program. It is VERY intense...probably more so for me because I am married and have a 4 year old. But if I can do it, I think anyone can get through it. Also, I've had a lot of unique opportunities this past year that I've gotten to participate in. I say if you get in, network, network, network!! And even though the program is intense, try to find a school-related extra-curricular activity to be involved in. Since I am coming to the end of my time in the program, my extra-curricular activities really helped me when it came time for putting in my application for the DNP program at MUSC. In addition, it will help when it comes time for job interviews. I just had an interview yesterday and got invited for a 2nd round, which I don't think many people got invited for a 2nd round just yet because it is still early on. Another good thing that happened today is we got to pick up our cap and gown! And now we are being pressed to complete registration for our license *cough cough 200 bucks*. It is all becoming real now, but I am enjoying every moment of it! (:

Don't be discouraged! like moca said, there is still a chance! It is way better than a denial letter. I am sure that everything will happen the way it is supposed to. I am nervous now, I wonder when I will receive my letter. I figured that it may be a few days after yours sense I live out of state. MUSC is my dream school as well! It is also nice that they have a fall and spring start opposed to just a spring start. I wish you the best of luck, keep us updated!

That is so awesome! I know you worked very hard and it is well deserved. Good luck on your DNP application, that is what I hope to end up as! I have to learn to be a better at networking because I can be pretty shy when it comes to subjects like that. What course did you find the hardest? Did you feel as though you got to have a lot of clinical hours?

So, the hardest course for me was patho/pharm because that is totally on-line. It may be easy because you can do you studying and your tests from home but when it comes to taking the pharm ATI exam, around half the class failed it. So that is something I think needs improvement. We have a total of 900 clinical hours to complete. It doesn't seem like much but you have to remember that the program is 16 months long. So in my opinion, the clinical hours seem appropriate.

Hello everyone!

So, I was able to get the following information. Hope this helps!

Thanks for that! I haven't heard anything yet, but it's only been like since the 9th of this month that I got my "alternate" letter. It'll probably take some time. I think I understand this chart correctly, pending status for the ABSN program is 21 (total) and accepted offers (26)? so the others are defers or declines? lol then the final section is for those not offered... I'm so nervous! lol no "alternate" category :( haha so idk how long the list is... I hope it all comes through though!!! Thanks again :) :)
