I just got mine. I did some checking on the links and it turns out (to my honest surprise), that you cannot cover all of tuition with stafford loans. Now I am seriously worried that I won't be able to pay for tuition. I am going to call and talk to someone in financial aid tomorrow to see what can be done, but it looks like all the loan programs (except unsubsidized stafford) are based on having a low income. My husband and I have a small construction co. and on paper it looks like we make a lot of money, when really we do not.

If you have taken loans (sub and unsub) for your previous undergrad then you may have reached you loan limit. You are only allowed so much for each type. The amounts change if it is for post undergrad.

I have not reached my limits in borrowing. The problem is the amount that can be borrowed. MUSC's chart:[TABLE=class: body_text_sm, width: 500, align: center]

So what is the first year of the nursing program considered? Is it 3rd year and beyond? And what do the totals mean? Is $7000 the max per year for the 3rd year or is it the max per semester that one can borrow for that year? So confused....I guess because when I was an undergrad I qualified for some grants and when I was in grad school I had a teaching assistant ship I was always able to cover the rest of tuition and costs with loans without worry. Now I'm rather nervous :nailbiting:

I haven't gotten anything about financial aid yet. Are you both applying as in state?

Yes! I got accepted for priority as in state- i actually got an email about financial aid, not a package in the mail

Has any non-priority applicants heard anything yet?

Not yet, but I am getting anxious! They didn't hear until mid March last year even though the website says it would be about a month after the due date. I guess we aren't too far away from the decision date!

I've applied for Fall 2014 non-priority admission, the waiting is the HARDEST part! :nailbiting: I hope we all find out soon and by the way congrats mamagui on your admission!!!!

Has anyone heard anything or contacted the office for number of applicants or when they may send out letters, etc.? I'm tired of waiting...but at the same time I know we don't have too much longer!

Hi I’m thinking about applying to MUSC’s BSN Spring 2015 program. I graduated with a Bachelors in Mass Communications, but knew that wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life. I’ve always wanted to do something with helping people, especially children, I just didn’t know how to go about doing it. My older brother died of Leukemia when he was nearly 7 years old, and I think that is the reason I am so passionate about helping children. After I graduated, I learned about occupational therapy and fell in love with the field. I’ve spent the past year earning observation hours and applying to several masters programs. It’s a very competitive field to get into and I’m trying to decide what my back up plan will be if I don’t get accepted into any of the programs that I have applied to. I’m beginning to think that my application process for OT may have been a way to prepare me for nursing school. I have shown myself that I have perserverance and a strong work ethic, which I can say was not the case in undergrad as the result of some personal health issues. In my post-bacc work, I have all A’s in Anatomy I&II and Medical Terminology. I’m taking Physics now and I’m thinking about taking Micro over the summer. I have work experience as a special needs instructor at a children’s gymnastics facility, a rehab tech at Johns Hopkins (OT & PT), and a rehab tech at another physical therapy facility. I have 40 observation hours at Kennedy Krieger (a well-known children’s hospital in Batimore) and I’m going to start volunteering at another pediatric hospital. I volunteered for a month helping disadvantaged children in South Africa (best experience of my life... I highly recommend it to anyone!) I’m just starting to think that maybe my life is coming full circle and working as a oncology pediatric nurse is what I was meant to do all along. I really wanted to apply to MUSC’s MSOT program, but I didn’t want to take the GRE that it required. I was looking at nursing programs today and I got so excited to see that MUSC had an accelerated nursing program. I’m just wondering if I would be a good candidate for this program. My GPA for my last 60 credits is a 3.18, my last 45 credits is 3.35, and my cum undergrad GPA is 2.98, which will hopefully be a 3.0 after my two classes this semester. This is what I have for the following prereq’s:

Human Development - B

AP I - A

AP II - A

Micro - not taken

Stats - C

Science elective (Physics) - in process

I know my undergrad GPA hurts me, but I think if the admissions takes a holistic approach and looks at the person rather than just the GPA, I could potentially be a good candidate. Just wondering if anyone thinks I have a chance in appying for next spring?

Has anyone heard anything or contacted the office for number of applicants or when they may send out letters etc.? I'm tired of waiting...but at the same time I know we don't have too much longer![/quote']

You probably won't hear for a couple more weeks- our spring break is the 10-14 so I would imagine you will hear the week after. Good luck!

I think you would have a good shot at getting into the nursing program...but I am not an admissions specialist :) If OT is where you want to go I wouldn't let the GRE hold you back....its just a test and again they look at the candidate as a whole. Good Luck with whatever you decide!
