MUSC ACCEL NURSING PROGRAM: How did you get in?

Published

Hey all,

I've been browsing a lot of threads but can't really find any answers I'm looking for and I'm hoping that I am not the only one with these questions...I plan on applying to MUSC for Spring '10 and I am curious about those of you who recently were accepted:

what was your GPA? - do they combine previous college degree GPA's with most current or just take most current?

SAT/ACT score?

In-state/out-of-state?

work experience/volunteer experience? How much experience?

Race/Ethnicity (just wondering how diverse the program is - you don't have to answer if you don't want to!!)

I know it's a competitive school, I keep going back and forth about my chances of getting in, but trying to stay positive!!!

Thanks in advance!

Im assuming you mean the Medical University of South Carolina? You should go on the SC board, Im sure someone will be able to answer you. I just know its very competitive and most of the people that go there are white. Here is an MUSC thread. https://allnurses.com/south-carolina-nurses/musc-accelerated-bsn-215732.html

Thank you for your response...i've been searching the SC threads, seems like most have already been through the program and since then the application process has changed a bit. I'll figure it out though, thanks!

oh, and as far as how competitive it is, when I asked they said there were 366 applicants for 60 openings. Geesh! So that means only 16% got in. Thank god i didnt know that before.

Oooh!! *waves hi* I'll be starting fall '09 too! :yeah: You're not at CofC now, are you?

I had no idea about the applied/admitted stats for this year...that's crazy.

Pyrokayte's stats are way better than mine.

What was your GPA? 3.4 (But that's my overall GPA - graduating in May. Pre-reqs were much higher..probably close to a 4.0)

SAT/ACT score? Uh..1200-ish.

In-state/out-of-state? In state.

Work experience/volunteer experience? How much experience? No volunteer experience, but I've worked as a vet assistant for years so I have experience with drawing blood, catheters, x-ray, etc.

Race/Ethnicity - I'm a middle class white girl.

Thank you for responding...I would love to hear from more people if anyone sees this and can help! :) Congrats to you two that have been accepted, I wish you the best!

I was there! I was the girl who originally wanted to go to vet school, but thought it'd take too much time and money, haha. I totally forgot about the facebook group - I'll go join tonight.

I'm way more worried about money than I am classes. My life motto is "I made it through organic chemistry. Nothing can be worse than that." I refuse to believe there's a class worse than organic. ;)

Can I say how totally un-excited I am about our uniforms? Who thought all white was practical? I'm gonna have to go buy all new underwear now just so my undies won't show through my pants. (They should probably add that to the expected expenses page.) I've been putting off ordering stuff/forms/titres..guess I should probably get started on that. I'd hate to get behind before we even get started.

Hey! I just applied for the MUSC nursing program for the spring of 2010! I applied for the fall this past time, but seemingly didn't get in because I still needed quite a few prerequisites. I am nervous though this time around since there is more pressure of getting in to start the program on time. I have a 3.5 GPA and a 24 on my ACT. I submitted great references, essay, and resume. I am only 18 years old, so I do not know whether it will affect me in a positive or negative way. I will be finishing up my second semester of my sophomore year this fall so I am crossing my fingers as well. But definitely apply if you haven't yet! It's worth the shot. Good luck to you!

Hey guys! I'm new to this whole forum thing, so I'll say one big giant hello...I've also applied for MUSC's Spring 2010 semester. Keeping my fingers crossed! Am I the only one who wished they would allow us more than 100 words for the essay?! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there are typically less applicants for a spring semester versus a fall semester? From what I can find out about other schools that seems to be the case and I didn't know if MUSC kind of fell in that category. I know they had 366 applicants for fall 2009, and I'll be honest-those odds scare me!!!!! We should be hearing something in the coming months! Good luck to everyone!:wink2:

I kept looking at the essay and was thinking maybe they meant 1,000 words? :) It was very difficult to get it right, but in the end, I am happy with the essay. It's the GPA that worries me since that is worth 50% of the admissions. I've moving to Charleston in January regardless of what happens though, and I've very excited!! Best of luck to all!
