MUSC ABSN Spring 2015

Published

Hi everyone!!!

I wanted to go ahead and make a thread for MUSC's Spring 2015 hopefuls. I know it is a little bit early to start this thread, but I am just so excited. I am looking forward to everyone stats and encouragement for each other. Looking forward to the results!!!

I would try MUSC again. Your GPA is higher than mine. You should work on building your volunteer/work experience. They really do want a well rounded applicant who has a bit of everything not a lot of one thing. The lady I spoke with that helped me with my essay gave some pointers to write it. She said write it, have your fiance read it and your mom read and have them tell you if it sounds like who you are. I find sometimes when we write we can tend to be generic without meaning to but your friends and family know you best and if they read your essay and can tell it is something you wrote then you should be solid!

I want to, trust me... But I'm 27, a mother, and wife, and waiting for a possibility doesn't seem reasonable. I'm just crushed. I'll be ok though. I've tried to get a job in a hospital, but it's hard here unless you know someone. I wish I could get a job there somehow.

hey guys, finally got through and found out I was accepted. but no letter came today, shelley drake said it would be coming soon. congrats to all that also got accepted, and for those who didn't don't give up. to me the most important aspect is work experience bc without my job as a patient care tech in the recovery room at McLeod I don't think I would have had much of a chance. cant wait to get started.

Hey hon, it doesn't seem reasonable to you now because you are a little upset. Come on and move down here anyway!! MUSC is ALWAYS hiring!!! Have you been on their website? Keep checking that everyday and apply for everything you're qualified for. That's how I got my foot in the door. My first job with MUSC was a data specialist position...basically inputting patient charges & deductibles on their accounts...boring! But I did it and moved up and got another position and so forth. You can do it girl, do it for your babies!!!!

I'll check it out. Everything I've applied for down here, I've just had no luck. I guess if I could get a job there then I would probably reapply. I just don't know right now.

Honestly, I'm not sure how I made it through on the experience front. I've never worked directly with people in a medical setting, but I've been an emergency and specialty vet tech full time for the past three years. I talked about the difference and working with clients versus what veterinary medicine has taught me about medicine in general (pharmacology, basic protocols, making care plans, etc) and what I still need to learn for working with people, but I thought it would be a much bigger disadvantage.

I guess I just wanted to throw that out there as a bit of encouragement to anyone who feels discouraged this cycle.

BS Biology, cGPA 3.91, prereq GPA 3.93, 163 verbal, 161 quant, 5.0 writing GRE

Just spoke with Shelly and she said that they made it through the entire alternate list for fall term. This is encouraging news. The list is not ranked (its random), basically whoever they can contact and how responsive they are.

That's definitely good news, especially since fall had so many more applicants in general. I wish you guys all the best.

Did you find out how many alternate spots there are??

There are 20 alternates

You all still have a good chance!!
