I am currently in the process of applying to Musc's Absn program for fall 2018! I was wondering if anyone else is applying and what you stats are/will be before the application is due!
Hi!
First time posting here. I just received an acceptance letter to MUSC ABSN program!!! I have a BS in Biology already and 3.5 GPA.
I'm out of state from NYC. I picked this school mainly due to location and I'm searching for reviews from current/past students. Does anyone have any resources for me?
This is in my top 3 and the first school I've heard back from.
Good luck everyone!

I also was accepted. I have a previous degree in International Development and a 3.5 GPA, and I am out of state. It is in my top 2 schools, I was planning on attending montana in May but now need to rethink. If there are former students or anyone who can comment on the program I would love to connect with them. Reviews are also helpful. Another thing I would love confirmation/comments on is the price. any other out of state folks that can comment on price for the program (~$47k), and scholarships available.
Good luck to everyone else! Hope the call/email comes.

Congrats everyone! I just received an acceptance e-mail today, too. I was really surprised because I called earlier this week to ask when they would send out letters, and I was told mid-March. I asked if that meant March 15th, and she said that it could be any time mid-March. However, if you did not receive an e-mail yet, I do not think there is any harm in calling.
I am also waiting to hear back from another program, and I should know if I'm accepted by April 1st. Do you think there is any harm in waiting to accept MUSC's offer close to the deadline? As in, would they ever retract your acceptance if too many applicants accept before you?
I'm new to Allnurses but have been lurking. I just got my acceptance email today as well. I couldn't believe it! I'll post my info for other applicants to see what I was working with when I applied in a separate post. I wouldn't be concerned if you hadn't heard anything yet. They may still be working on sending out the emails or still in the process of filling the rest of the available spaces.
I do have a question for any current students, past students, or future students if you know the answer: I'm wondering about scholarships/financing options. I read on the website that many 2nd Bachelors students have to take out private loans. From what I've seen in past forums, scholarships seemed scarce, but I also saw other people who had posted that question, did in fact, end up attending the ABSN program so I was wondering if they did actually receive more scholarships or had to go the private loan route. I don't see myself being able to do the private loan route. My EFC is 0 and I'm an independent student. Private student loans are hard to get when you don't make a lot and have an average credit score and I come from a pretty poor background so I have no one who can co-sign on my loan. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they do actually award scholarships and people are able to get funding for the ABSN program. Any tips, ideas, external scholarship programs, etc. are very much welcome.
I saw two scholarships that are listed with a contract of required employment:
MUSC Medical Center Scholarship - 2 year commitment
Roper Patron Scholarship - 1 year commitment
but under the CON application, these two weren't listed. The description made it seem like you could be a current employee OR a student willing to commit to these facilities. Any one know if this is the case? and if so, will be offered the opportunity or is there an external link to apply since it wasn't included in the CON application?
I know I asked a lot of questions, but I'm a planner and really excited about being accepted into the program since my goal is to become a nurse practitioner. I was accepted into the Trident Tech nursing program, but MUSC was really my first and preferred choice since it shaves off an entire year of undergrad required to get me at the BSN level. Plus, I really loved the campus and program overview given when I attended an information session.
Sorry for the long previous post, but I'm just desperate for any information from other students or previous students!
Here are my stats for applying:
I had a B.Sc. in Chemistry and B.Sc. in Forensic Science (I received these at the same time when I attended undergrad the first time). I also have a minor in Psychology (can't remember if this was listed on my application or just in my resume)
My GPA was not that great. It was only like a 3.1. My GPA when I graduated with my bachelors was 3.01 and then I had to finish the pre-requisite courses which bumped it up to about a 3.1.
After I graduated, I worked for a toxicology lab as a quality assurance specialist, following that I worked briefly as a medical assistant and then as a live-in care giver to an elder person with dementia. This was about 5 years total.
My letters of recommendation were from former employers, which included a physician I worked with.
I think were I lacked in GPA, I made up for in my letters of recommendation, work/volunteer experience, and my field of study for my first bachelors may have been another added plus. So, even though the website says GPA counts for 75% of their decision, I don't know that I really believe that given my situation.
My pre-requisite courses GPA was a 3.8 I believe. I made an A in all but one course (Microbiology I made a B in). My statistics course I re-took. The first time I took it I made a D in it. This was back in 2011 before I was even thinking about nursing school. I re-took it and made an A.
I hope this helps those thinking about applying or are still waiting! They do take in a mixture of different things besides GPA.
I just called and was told that they are still sending out emails. They will be done doing so by the end of today. If you don't receive one by the end of today, then you have not been accepted or put on the alternate list.
(I have not yet received one.)
If you are not accepted, you can call Monday for a review of your application to find out why your application was not accepted and if it can be improved for possible approval for a future semester.
I got an email, did you?
Mine was a, "We're sorry, not this semester...but please apply next semester...here's the deadline" letter.
Hopefully yours was more positive.
However, I'm not extremely shocked. Even though I do have 4 sciences, one of them (Chem, I believe), isn't required for this program. Physiology...which is...is still in progress as I'm taking it this semester.
I'm guessing (hoping) that's my reason for not making the cut this semester, but I'm going to call on Monday to find out for sure.
Thank you for the update. I have not received one yet either, and I am out of state. This is incredibly nerve wrecking. Good luck!
