how much $ is too much

For all who think we are a bunch of money driven pigs I want to ask you how much is too much based on my pediatric practice.

How much money would it take for you to take a young couple's most prized possession for them and tell them you are going to take care of their 4 week old boy, then go put little junior into a drug induced coma for his craniotomy.

How much would it take to get you to put a child to sleep for cardiac cath that has TOF/pulmonary atresia so they can evaluate her heart before having surgery.

How much would you charge to take a child from it's sobbing mother to go do a harvest on her baby because he's brain dead.

Yes we make good money, because we earn it. Just knowing how long I'm liable for each case in working pediatrics is enough to stress you out even for giving a little propofol to a healthy child in MRI. There is the reward of money but you have to love it to keep from burning out. For the students out there don't let any of the "nay-sayers" steal your dream...many are called, few are chosen.

hehehe

Yah i pretty much think all sports is overpaid! I am a baseball fan tho! As a Canadian from the east coast my team is default the BlueJays.

Cool about that program. I have seen a couple of posts about the Thomas Jeff. CRNA program seems its quite new. In anycase i dont know about any CRNA programs which are "Bad" per se so im sure it will be a great program.

We have a similar entrance thing here in AZ for Paramedics wanting to be RNs. With some pre reqs and a 3 month bridge they can enter the last year of the RN program (its an ADN though not a degree). Wish they had that when i was a medic... aw well.

Good luck with the program. One of the things about us older folks is that we are often very motivated and determined! Go us!

hehe.

we just got off on the wrong foot, while i am a cracker (tee hee), ive never had issues with anyone. Whens the program start?

It starts next summer. So I'm just doing two prereqs I didn't have. I'm good with the math classes thank goodness. You're getting your masters in nursing/CRNA correct? 54 days? If so, did you work during the program? Whats the toughest part? I'm worried about tubing someone. I just dont know how you cant make a mistake doing something so delicate, especially with peds

Specializes in I know stuff ;).

Hey

I wont actually be starting until next year. Its my buddy RN thats 54 days out.

From what everyone says its quite hard to work during the program. As for the intubation part I do that alot now in my job and its one of the few things that still causes me to pucker up every time! Its scary there is no greater responsibility, in my opinion. Last count (i record every tube) im up to about 510 tubes over about 10 yrs last one being last night at 4 am. Ugh.

Its a skill that gets easier with time, the scary part is knowing the dangers of the intervention and when to be conservative. Im not above Bagging a patient into the trauma room when i miss a tube in 2 tries.

on the other hand, they have been instructed to enforce our zero-tolerance policy. our biggest concern here is the quality of membership not the quantity. we have no problem removing any individual who disrupts this bulletin board.
