I know its personal but I am just curious, of course you don't have to answer it but for those of you who don't mind, answer please, thanks!

CNA/RN/LPN/PA/APN/fulltime/parttime/casual whatever your profession is, just state it and share :)

If you'll be working as a Nursing Assistant in Pgh, you won't be making much at all unless you work for Kane Regional or the VA (government based and you have to be certified to be considered for hire). If you're working outside the ciy, you'll be makes less than what you would make in the city. For UPMC, NA's outside the city make 30 cents less than those who work in the city, even though it's the same job. I've seen tons of NA job listings for UPMC McKeesport, but if you notice the salary isn't even listed.

18 yrs experience- 6 yrs at my current employer & I make $20.11/hr day shift + .75 shift diff if i work 2nd or 3rd. Plus benefit package of 12 paid holidays a year @ 1 1/2 time + an extra day off.

Our Rn's make $22/hr to start our MA's make $10/hr

If you go to one of our local hospitals you can start at $16/hr for LPN $18/hr for RN's.. CNA & MA...... make roughly $8-10/hr max

I am an overtime hog so to speak, i can clear $50,000- $60,000 easy each year just by working all the holidays & working overtime!! :yeah:

This may have already been posted as I didnt read the entire thread---but it doesnt really matter what any one posts because unless you live in that area of the poster it doesnt matter.

I make 27.5 an hour --yet hosp in your area may pay 22.00 an hour--are you going to pack up/buy a house and move here?? Prob not.

Some will say they make 50.00 an hour and we will ohh and ahh at that figure---yet how much is thier house payment? How much are they paying for a gallon of milk? Do they have a big yard with lots of trees or are they haveing to live in an apt?

Nursing is not, has never been a job where you "can get rich" but you can live comfortably. I can live comfortably just off my 27.75 an hour as the ones who make 19.50---prob just as comfortable as the ones who make 38.5. It depends on the location-cost of living-etc etc etc

I could not agree with you more! Very well put! Iowa complains on how low their wages are, but our cost of living is very low here and in my opinion to be rich is to be comfortable and happy!!

When I was working as a CNA at an ALF I made $9 an hr

LPNs here range from 13-18

RNs start at the hospital locally at around 18-20.

PLENTY of money to live where I live and enjoy life! :D

Can someone answer a question for me? It is silly, I know, but how do you figure out from the yearly salary exactly how much you make an hour? Thanks!

Very true...in fact, now, I am not as much in awe of the LPN/RN salary as I was before, because after union dues, taxes, mortgage, car payments, and such, most of us still cry broke. I am fortunate to have inherited my mother's home when she died with no mortgage and my needs are humble. I don't need expensive clothes, don't own a car (in NY, public transportation is easier to have access to than other rural areas) and I don't have expensive taste, so, actually, with the addition of my husband's salary, I am actually able to save money. I do overtime, of course, but I save it more than use, and the things I purchase that are large are more for the house, such as roof repair, the refrigerator I have to purchase tomorrow since it died, and foundational repairs for this humble, yet, old home.

Divide your yearly salary by 2040 - that'll give you the amount. 2040 is the number of hours you work in a year at 40 hours per week.

Okay, now we work 37.5 per week. What number would I use for that? I am still embarassingly poor in math skills. I REALLY appreciate this!

1950

its 37.5x52(weeks in a year)=1950

40302/1950=20.66

so you make 20.66 an hour

hehe dont worry about your math skills! I have my boyfriend to do my math homework for me haha he is a huge nerd !

CNA in rural Missouri. I make 7.65 an hour. I'm in nursing school though, so I cant complain. Good times. Can I come live with some of you making $40 an hour? Just pay me 9. I'll clean, do laundry, making dinner and let you vent about your day.
